If the war against Islamic extremism were left to Comedy Central, it would have been lost by now. The network’s decision to censor last week’s episode of “South Park” depicting Muhammad was an act of unilateral surrender in the face of violent jihadist threats.

“South Park” first depicted Muhammad in July 2001 in an episode in which representatives of major religions were envisioned as superheroes. No one objected. A second depiction in 2006 – intended as commentary on the 2005 controversy in which a Danish newspaper was threatened by Islamic radicals after running cartoons satirizing Muhammad – was censored. Last week’s censorship was heavier still. “South Park” co-creator Matt Stone observed that this marked a cultural retreat. Censorship became “the new normal,” he said. “We lost. Something that was OK is now not OK.” His creative partner, Trey Parker, noted that if “everyone would have rallied together” after the first threats in Denmark, there never would have been a problem.

Comedy Central was not taking a principled stand against blasphemy because the episode showed Buddha snorting cocaine and – most outrageously – Jesus downloading Internet porn. “South Park” is an equal-opportunity slayer of sacred cows, both sectarian and secular, but the network is sending a message that it plays favorites to jihadists because they are the only ones who threaten violence.

The media, liberals in particular, are real brazen about attacking American values and Western culture. But let radical muslim shitbags raise a stink over getting parodied or criticized for their violent religion, and the heretofore brave, edgy, mealy-mouthed media runs for cover.

Attention Trey Parker and Matt Stone: It’s time to leave Comedy Central and maybe switch to Fox. That network would likely protect you from this shit and less susceptible to censorship.

It does indeed. This is the same network that showcases leftwing assholes like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert without batting an eye.

The radical Islamic Web site Revolutionmuslim.com is going after the creators of the TV cartoon series “South Park” after an episode last week included an image of the Prophet Mohammed in disguise.

That’s him in the bear suit….allegedly.

Revolutionmuslim.com, based in New York, was the subject of a CNN investigation last year for its radical rhetoric supporting “jihad” against the West and praising al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Its organizers insist they act within the law and seek to protect Islam.

On Sunday, Revolutionmuslim.com posted an entry that included a warning to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that they risk violent retribution – after the 200th episode last week included a satirical discussion about whether an image of the prophet could be shown. In the end, he is portrayed disguised in a bear suit.

The posting on Revolutionmuslim.com says: “We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

Theo van Gogh was a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered by an Islamic extremist in 2004 after making a short documentary on violence against women in some Islamic societies. The posting on Revolutionmuslim.com features a graphic photograph of Van Gogh with his throat cut and a dagger in his chest.
