Thirty-three individuals associated with the activist group SUPER-UW (Students United for Palestinian Equality and Return) were arrested on May 5, 2025, after occupying the University of Washington’s newly opened Interdisciplinary Engineering Building and causing approximately $1 million in damage. The protesters, who included 23 current students, barricaded entrances, smashed CNC machine tools, defaced a Boeing mural, and set dumpsters on fire to demand the university sever ties with Boeing, which had donated $10 million to the building’s construction.
In March 2026, King County prosecutors filed charges of first-degree criminal trespass (a gross misdemeanor) against the group, known as the “UW33.” Felony charges for vandalism and burglary were dropped because investigators could not identify which specific individuals committed the destruction. As of September 2026, the defendants have entered stipulated orders of continuance; if they complete community service and avoid new legal violations for 12 months, the charges will be dismissed without conviction, jail time, or restitution.
Damage: Over $1 million in property destruction, including smashed lab equipment and spray-painted walls.
University Response: The school initially suspended 21–23 students for three quarters; all were later reinstated after completing disciplinary proceedings.
Legal Outcome: No felony convictions; misdemeanor charges subject to diversion agreements.
Group Status: SUPER-UW permanently lost its status as a recognized student organization at UW.
These students have also been readmitted to the school. For a minute there, it looked like there might be consequences, but they are being given no real punishment.
County prosecutors in Washington state cut deal with anti-Israel ‘UW33,’ accused of causing $1 million in damage at University of Washington
Prosecutors dismissed charges against 33 people, including students, who were accused of occupying and causing $1 million in damage to an engineering building at the University of Washington during an anti-Israel protest in May 2025.
Under stipulated orders of continuance reached with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the first-degree criminal trespass charges will be dismissed after 12 months if the defendants complete community service and do not commit new legal violations.The agreements do not constitute guilty pleas, but the defendants must stipulate to the accuracy of the police reports, according to a spokesman for the county prosecutor. If a court determines that a defendant violated the terms, it could revoke the agreement following a hearing and conduct a stipulated bench trial.
