The liberal bigotry of low expectations.
Boston Public Schools officials said that a program with advanced learning classes would be canceled over concerns that the classes served disproportionate racial groups.
The program known as Advanced Work Classes was intended to serve high-performing students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade. Students are encouraged to study their subjects in a deeper and non-traditional manner.
School officials became concerned when a report showed that the program was disproportionately serving white students, and underserving black and Hispanic students.
The district analysis found that more than 70% of the students in the program were white or Asian, while nearly 80% of the students in the district are Hispanic or black.
“This is just not acceptable,” said School Committee member Lorna Rivera in a school meeting in January. “I’ve never heard these statistics before, and I’m very very disturbed by them.”
Rivera cited one finding at one school that showed the program included 60% white fourth graders though a majority of third graders are black or Hispanic.
Superintendent Brenda Cassellius told WGBH News on Friday that they would put the program on hiatus over the racial findings.
“There’s been a lot of inequities that have been brought to the light in the pandemic that we have to address,” Cassellius said. “There’s a lot of work we have to do in the district to be antiracist and have policies where all of our students have a fair shot at an equitable and excellent education.”
Students would be eligible in the program if they scored high on a test in third grade. Of those, participants were chosen by lottery. Officials said 453 students were invited to the program last fall, 143 students applied and 116 enrolled for the 2021 year.
Cassellius said students already enrolled in the program could continue, but it would be phased out for fourth and fifth grades.
Of course, it never occurred to Rivera that these programs are based on ability, merit, and motivation. Equal opportunity does not mean equal results. There’s nothing keeping other students from entering the program if they’re actually qualified; something that liberals always assign to skin color, not aptitude. Their reaction is to either lower the standards or eliminate the curriculum entirely, because, “racism”. It’s their way of telling students “of color” that in spite of their potential, they’re being excluded because of their race, not because they haven’t tried. According to the report, 453 students were invited to the program and only 143 students applied. 116 enrolled for the 2021 year. What happened to the other 310 students who didn’t apply or the 27 students who didn’t enroll?
All things being “equal” they should be in the program as well, right?
If 80% of the students in the district are Hispanic or black, why not just enroll them and keep the white and Asian kids out, to compensate for “inequalities”?
The Left’s toxic ideology is metastasizing throughout the American school system.
A Sacramento high school teacher wanted Shakespeare removed from the curriculum because the subject matter didn’t speak to ethnically diverse students’. Evidently, Ebonics, vulgar rap lyrics, and “race-based” teaching are the new norm.
The Oregon Department of Education has asked white students to show how their math is a form of “white supremacy”. Being able to handle basic math is a “white thing”.
A New York City public school sent out a graphic to parents encouraging them to become “white traitors” and “white abolitionists.”
The Left’s goal isn’t to bridge any gaps between races or encourage unity. The purpose is to brainwash kids into becoming “woke” totalitarians like Dem politicians and the academic intelligentsia that drives the propaganda.
This bullshit only serves to penalize gifted students for their skin color. That’s pretty fucking racist.
