Not that we needed a whistleblower to confirm this.
“Highly credible” whistleblowers have come forward to a senior Senate Republican alleging a widespread effort within the FBI to downplay or discredit negative information about President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, according to letters reviewed by CBS News.
“The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation,” GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland on July 25. “The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter.”
Grassley, the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the whistleblowers alleged that legitimate streams of information and intelligence about the president’s son were characterized as likely disinformation or prematurely shut down leading up to the 2020 presidential election.
CBS News first reported in April that more than 150 financial transactions involving either Hunter or James Biden’s global business affairs were flagged as concerning by U.S. banks for further review. CBS News previously reported the U.S. attorney in Delaware has been investigating potential tax fraud, money laundering and foreign influence peddling.
The president has said he has confidence his family did the right thing, and he was not involved in the business dealings of his son and brother.
A spokesperson for Delaware U.S. attorney David Weiss declined to comment on whether he was aware of whistleblower allegations that credible reporting about Hunter Biden was allegedly labeled misinformation by the FBI and whether these allegations had been factored into his probe.
In the correspondence, Grassley cited a 2020 FBI intelligence assessment that was “used by an FBI headquarters team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation.” He continued, “Based on allegations, verified and verifiable derogatory information on Hunter Biden was falsely labeled as disinformation.”
In October 2020, one month before the election, “an avenue of derogatory Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed” by a senior FBI agent at the bureau’s Washington Field office. An earlier letter from Grassley identified the agent as Timothy Thibault.
“[T]he allegations provided to my office appear to indicate that there was a scheme in place among certain FBI officials to undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation,” Grassley claimed.
He said whistleblowers from federal law enforcement came forward to his office after a May 31 letter he had written noted a “pattern of active public partisanship in his then public social media content,” in reference to Thibault.
In that May 31 letter, Grassley also accused Thibault of likely violations of “[f]ederal laws, regulations and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines.”
“Whistleblowers have reported to me, that although the FBI and Justice Department maintain policies dictating specific standards requiring substantial factual predication to initiate an investigation, Thibault and other Justice Department and FBI employees failed to comply with these requirements.”
A string of whistleblowers within the FBI allege that the bureau and the Department of Justice have selectively observed federal guidelines, launching investigations into conservative-aligned figures without sufficient basis to do so.
In a Monday press release from Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican highlighted whistleblower accusations that “Washington Field Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault disregarded agency guidelines requiring substantial factual predication to trigger investigations.”
Grassley’s office noted that Thibault played a pivotal role in opening an investigation into the Trump campaign using information from a
“left-aligned organization” and that he whitewashed the source’s biases to coax approval for an investigation from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Moreover, the whistleblowers further allege that Thibault worked to falsely discredit legitimate evidence against Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, related to his finances and business deals abroad.
Grassley wrote last week to Wray and Garland to address the allegations against Thibault, making bold pronouncements as to the state of the American justice system should they prove true.
“If these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are – and have been – institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law,” he wrote.
The Iowa Senator, in late May, wrote to Wray, Garland, and Inspector General Michael Horowitz to call their attention to politically charged social media posts Thibault made at the expense of Republicans.
FBI whistleblowers allege that the Bureau’s leaders ordered agents not to investigate Hunter Biden’s laptop, according to a letter Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson sent to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz asking that he investigate the matter.
Prior to the 2020 presidential election, some of the content of a laptop belonging to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, became public and appeared to show damaging information on the then-presidential candidate. Media outlets derided the laptop as misinformation or Russian disinformation at the time.
“After the FBI obtained the Hunter Biden laptop from the Wilmington, Del. computer shop, these whistleblowers stated that local FBI leadership told employees, ‘you will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop’ and that the FBI is ‘not going to change the outcome of the election again,”‘ the letter, which the Daily Mail obtained, reads.
“I hope you understand that the longer your office stands on the sidelines and delays investigating the FBI’s actions, the harder it will be for you to uncover the truth and hold individuals accountable for wrongdoing,” Johnson continued.
Then-FBI Director James Comey announced in 2016 that the Bureau was reopening its investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton prior to the presidential election, a move many critics said affected the race’s outcome.
“While I understand your hesitation to investigate a matter that may be related to an ongoing investigation, it is clear to me based on numerous credible whistleblower disclosures that the FBI cannot be trusted with the handling of Hunter Biden’s laptop,” Johnson further wrote.
I would love to see all the FBI whistleblowers testify before congress and hand Christopher Wray’s ass to them on a silver platter.
The DNC’s ethically bankrupt FBI spends its time and effort obsessing over bogus investigations of President Trump’s campaign and persecuting innocent Jan 6 protesters. The corruption and crimes of Hillary Clinton and the Biden Crime Family, not so much.
