A father and son from Texas and 10 children are among the 84 people killed Thursday when a terrorist drove a heavily armed truck into a crowd gathered along a packed promenade in Nice, where thousands of French revelers had gathered to watch fireworks and celebrate Bastille Day.
The driver, identified in multiple reports as a Tunisian national, left a mile-long swath of carnage along the seaside walkway before police killed him in a shootout. French authorities did not hesitate to pronounce the attack, which begand at 10:40 p.m. local time, an act of terrorism.
……There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but two sources, including a U.S. counterterrorism source who collects and monitors jihadist social media, told Fox News that accounts linked to ISIS were “celebratory” and their followers were told to use the hashtag “Nice.”
……The Americans were identified by a relative as Sean Copeland, 51, and his 11-year-old son Brodie. They were from the Austin area and were vacationing with other family members, according to Sean Copeland’s niece.

Early Friday morning, French media began reporting that the attacker was identified by ID papers found at the scene as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a Tunisian-born 31-year old.
On Thursday evening, according to reports and eyewitness accounts, Bouhlel drove a 25-ton lorry–a large truck used for transporting goods–into a packed crowd of revelers at a Batille Day celebration. Bouhlel drove approximately 1.2 miles through the crowd and, according to BBC News, “swerved and zigzagged in an apparent attempt to hit more people.” Witnesses claim Bouhlel shouted “Allahu Akbar” during his nearly 30 minute rampage.
Bouhlel reportedly opened fire on the crowd before he was engaged by police. He was killed in the ensuing gun battle.

A large truck drove into a crowd of people who had gathered for a Bastille Day fireworks show Thursday in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 60 people and injuring 100 more in a terror attack, officials said.
The city’s prefect of police told FranceTV Info that the new death toll was only an estimation. Another police official told France’s BFM TV that the driver of the truck was also dead.
A police spokeswoman, Sylvie Toffin, confirmed the incident was deliberate to the Associated Press, saying “It’s an attack.”
A witness, Wassim Bouhlel, told the Associated Press that he saw the truck drive into the crowd, then witnessed the driver emerge with a gun and start shooting.
“There was carnage on the road,” Bouhlel said. “Bodies everywhere.”
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi asked residents to stay where they were immediately following the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but but France has recently seen a spate of dramatic assaults from by jihadist groups, including the Islamic State group (ISIS) which straddles Iraq and Syria.
The attack happened at around 10:30 p.m. on the Promenade des Anglais, a major boulevard along the Mediterranean Sea.
Sebastien Humbert, a police prefect for the Alpes-Maritime area told BFM TV the truck traveled “over a long distance, which explains this extremely heavy toll.”
The Nice-Matin newspaper quoted one of its reporters as saying the truck driver “mounted onto the Prom and he drove on everyone.” The reporter added, “people are running, it’s panic.”
……The paper posted an image of the truck on Twitter, captioning it, “The truck that drove into the crowd.”
Apparently, Europe hasn’t had enough of these vermin The French government lists hundreds of “sensitive urban zones”, aka no-go areas populated by muzzie thugs.
