Karmelo Anthony had fantasized about stabbing someone and “licking the blood off the blade” just hours before he killed Austin Metcalf. The 19-year-old’s defense team returned to court Thursday for an appeal hearing, months after he was convicted of killing Austin Metcalf, 17 with a knife during a high school track meet last April.
State Prosecutor Bill Wirskye on Thursday pointed to several disturbing text messages that he said clearly revealed Anthony’s fixation on violence, including his alleged tendency to pick fights with others. “There is a text message where he fantasies about stabbing someone and licking the blood off the blade,” Wirskye told the court.
Just hours before the killing, Anthony’s ex-girlfriend reportedly told an assistant principal that she was being stalked by him. A message recovered from Anthony’s phone that same day showed him sending his ex-girlfriend a photo of a knife along with the ominous words, “I’m lowkey on the verge.”
Wirskye also claimed that, while the family was living in Baton Rouge, Anthony’s parents enrolled him in a special program at LSU for children who struggled with aggression and controlling their behavior.
Bombshell texts revealed in court this week show the convicted murderer of Austin Metcalf fantasizing about violence in chilling detail — threatening to put “bullets…coming out of ur chest,” declaring, “When I stab somebody I’m gonna lick their blood off the blade,” and texting “I’m lowkey on the verge” just two hours before he fatally stabbed the 17-year-old at a Frisco, Texas track meet.
………Prosecutor Dewey Mitchell begins to present some of the character evidence that surfaced about Karmelo Anthony that the jury never saw.
There are discipline records from a Baton Rouge school when Anthony was 6 or 7 years old. He was “punching another student” and had “willful disobedience.” He was on a behavioral plan through a Louisiana State University psych program.
At age 10, there were multiple reports of Anthony having fights with students and willful disobedience in the classroom.
Wirskye: “We know how to make use of this evidence.” But, the veteran prosecutor testified, they agreed not to use it even though it could have resulted in a much higher sentence.
Wirskye talked about statements found on notes in Anthony’s cell phone that he said showed deeply disturbing racist rants. Texts showed that Anthony hit a girl in the face. “There seemed to have been an obsession with fighting when we searched his phone,” Wirskye testified.
A Karmelo Anthony text stated: “that’s the only person I’ll shoot instead of fight” “imma shoot the school up tmr” (in 2023).
Mitchell: Would these texts would have been used in guilt/innocence or punishment? Wirskye: This would all be admissible and useful to the state during trial.
In other texts, Anthony talks about using weapons, like assault rifles, Wirskye said.
In a text conversation with his ex-girlfriend — who accused him of stalking her — Anthony wrote: “I pushed them n— to fight me but they didn’t want to.”
Another text: “If you make my face red like if you get me mad…turn your face purple.”
Mitchell repeatedly asked Wirskye if this material would have been useful to the prosecution during trial.
“We gave up a whole bunch. We honored our word,” Wirskye said.
In another text, the ex-girlfriend appears to tell Anthony to stop his behavior, specifically punching her. “I have to; it’s like a priority for me” Anthony wrote.
“We deadass abt to fight,” he wrote in response to a teacher who upset him.
Another text message to his ex-girlfriend: “how many bullets you want coming out of ur chest” from June 2024. May 2024: “im shooting her.” “imma beat your ass” “i wanted to hit a nigga ” “imma try to start a fight”
Some of the evidence that never made it into the murder trial per a “gentleman’s agreement”:
Anthony’s girlfriend revealed he had been stalking her after a breakup, and he had an obsession with fighting, guns, and knives. She went to an assistant principal to warn the school.
Just hours before stabbing Metcalf, he sent a picture to her of a knife, saying “I’m low key on the verge.”
Why did this never make it into the trial?
Collin County Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye says he offered an agreement.
The thug openly bragged about his fantasies on social media and played up the gangsta shit.
He’s right where he belongs.
