Current status in the legislature:
Congress returns to Washington on Monday with the same rapid-fire agenda it left in August, but now facing the more immediate task of deciding if the United States should launch a military strike on Syria.
The first floor action could come as early as Monday in the Senate, setting up a vote Wednesday in the chamber on a resolution authorizing the “limited and specified use” of U.S. armed forces against Syria for no more than 90 days and barring American ground troops from combat. A final vote in the 100-member chamber is expected at week’s end.
A House vote is likely the week of Sept. 16…
Ted Cruz, one of the few remaining true Republicans:
“We certainly don’t have a dog in the fight,” Cruz said, calling it a civil war in Syria. “We should be focused on defending the United States of America. That’s why young men and women sign up to join the military, not to, as you know, serve as Al Qaeda’s air force.”
Cruz noted that of the nine major rebel groups, seven have ties to Al-Qaeda. Cruz’s colleagues, Sens. McCain and Graham, are pushing the Obama Administration to arm rebel forces with heavy weapons. It is unclear how the US would ensure that its weapons would go exclusively to the “right” rebel forces. Even if they were, it is likely that any post-Assad regime would be dominated by elements loyal to Al-Qaeda.“I’ll give you one of the simplest principles of foreign policy that we ought to be following,” Cruz said. “Don’t give weapons to people who hate you. Don’t give weapons to people who want to kill you.”
As if all this shit wasn’t enough, Obama threw gasoline on the “Arab Spring” fire with aid to Hamas, the PLO, and the Muslim Brotherhood thugs in Egypt, including an $8 million bribe and $1.5 billion in military aid.
The al-Qaeda backed rebels are using the opportunity of the civil war to slaughter Christians.
In a moment of angst-inspired lucidity, leftwingnut Chris Matthews declares: ‘Dems have to support Obama to save his hide’.
Vladimir Putin, who owns Obama on a regular basis, calls Kerry a liar and says he will help Assad. So much for “reset”.
The bottom line is that there are no good guys in Syria, or for that matter, anywhere in the Islamofascist-controlled region of the Middle East. Kill them all, let ‘allah’ sort ’em out.
Having said that, this is my stock answer:
The whole episode is another sordid display of Obama’s pathetic, dicked-up foreign policies.
George W. Bush was way too restrained and Obama is a total pussy.
The problem of Islamofascist terrorism should have been solved on 12 September, 2001. Any president worth their salt would have closed every American embassy in the Middle East, yanked out each and every American DOD civilian, and proceeded to MOAB the shit out of every last vestige of Islamofascism in the region. That would require initially hitting all of the capitals; Kabul, Damascus, Riyadh, Amman, Beirut, Cairo, Tripoli, Sanaa, all the ‘stan capitals: Baku, Ashgabat, Dushanbe, Bishtek, Tashkent, Astana, Islamabad, and any other cesspool of Islam that crawls with muzzie vermin.
As long as they kill each other, I couldn’t care less. When they kill Americans and target the West, then I have a problem with that. Obama has a knack for doing nothing when it’s imperative something be done, and acting like he’s going to do something when he should keep his nose out of it.
