Ohio State Professor Matt Mayhew wrote an article titled “Why America Needs College Football”; an essay on the American tradition of college football and how it can help lift spirits and morale and give a sense of normalcy during the COVIDIOCY hysteria.
He even went so far as to pander to the liberal snowflakes by praising the “demands for racial equality” and seeing student athletes “kneel to protest police brutality”. All of which was still not enough for the horde of colicky and perpetually outraged children.
The mob of triggered leftwingnuts exploded in an onslaught of frothing rage.
The suggestion that football is somehow good for college pride is an affront to the academic intelligentsia and the self-described ‘intellectuals’ who opine about the “long history of exploiting Black and indigenous people of color” and “the United States’ system of racial capitalism”. It reads like a 1960s Black Panther manifesto. Liberals really don’t care about minorities. It gives them a demographic to exploit while mouthing platitudes about evil rich (white) corporate owners versus the workers. It’s been wrung for all it’s worth. It’s part and parcel of a party that uses exploitation as a campaign pitch for a target audience; an easily manipulated monolithic voting bloc that is all too willing to participate.
In response, Mayhew was reduced to writing maudlin, ingratiating tripe that he hopes will make their hurt feelz all better:
I am struggling to find the words to communicate the deep ache for the damage I have done. I don’t want to write anything that further deepens the pain experienced by my ignorance related to Black male athletes and the Black community at any time, but especially in light of the national racial unrest. I also don’t want to write anything that suggests that antiracist learning is quick or easy. This is the beginning of a very long process, one that started with learning about the empirical work related to Black college football athletes.
…….I learned that Black men putting their bodies on the line for my enjoyment is inspired and maintained by my uninformed and disconnected whiteness and, as written in my previous article, positions student athletes as white property.
You can’t get more cringeworthy than that. Whatever principles and common sense he had got compromised for the sake of appeasement.
Everything is based on skin color. Real equality comes in the form of opportunity, There’s no such thing as equal results. But with them, it’s a matter of melanin over merit.
The white athletes put their bodies on the football line too. Their talent is also taken advantage of for monetary gain. Alumni donors and corporations fund and support teams not just on loyalty, but success.
If college and professional sports teams decided to eliminate white athletes altogether in deference to blacks, that still wouldn’t make them happy. First, they fought to get blacks into professional and collegiate sports. They got their wish. Now that blacks filled the ranks and became predominant, they claim that the evil white conglomerate sits at ringside watching the ‘negroes’ beat each other to a pulp for entertainment.
It’s gotten way past the point of absurdity.
Now that Mayhew has given penance to the dictatorship, he’ll be a good little sycophant for the duration of his career.
