I reserved my opinion on this until the facts came out. I was torn between looking at this as a crime or a justifiable action by an angry, frustrated person who got fucked over by the depraved indifference of the healthcare conglomerate.
Apparently, this guy is a former Ivy League student and anti-capitalist who ranted about the healthcare industry’s massive profits.
According to the New York Post, his anger may have been driven by the treatment of a sick relative.
……..Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last week in New York City, made his first appearance in a courtroom in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He is being held without bail.
………Altoona Police Officer Tyler Frye, who has been on the job for six months, got the call and acted “swiftly” and “calmly,” Shapiro said.
Frye told reporters that when asked to pull his blue medical mask down, he “recognized him immediately” Frye said. “We didn’t even think twice about it, we knew that was our guy,”
…….Mangione was arraigned on charges of forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, possessing an instrument of crime, and providing false identification to law enforcement. He was ordered held without bail and did not enter a plea. His next court appearance in Blair County was scheduled for Dec. 23, pending a warrant from New York to have him extradited.
State law enforcement said that Mangione was cooperating at first but “he is not now,” adding that the 26-year-old suspect did not make any statements.
Police also said that Mangione had traveled between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with stops in between, including Altoona, where he was caught. They said they’re still piecing together a timeline of the suspect’s travels.
Police said they recovered a two-page manifesto that railed against the healthcare industry and stated, “These parasites had it coming,” when they captured a suspect Monday in the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Police not only recovered a gun and suppressor similar to what was used in the shooting, but multiple fake IDs, and “a handwritten document that speaks to both his motivation and mindset,” New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday at a news conference.
“He was railing against the healthcare industry, which of course fits into the scenario here,” John Miller, CNN’s chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst, told “CNN News Central.” “He talks about how these parasites had it coming. He starts off basically saying, I don’t want to cause any trauma, but it had to be done.
“So, a second page really kind of goes into problems with the health industry. He raises the question, you know, Why do we have the most expensive healthcare in the world, but we’re rated 42 in life expectancy around the world? I can’t vet his facts or findings there, but it was talking about the healthcare industry and the need for violence, especially when you talk about the opening, which is, that it had to be done. These parasites had it coming. That does kind of fit in with what we’re talking about.”
Mangione is from Towson, Maryland, and he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2020. His major at the Ivy League school was in computer science, and he minored in mathematics. He has addresses in Towson, Philadelphia and Honolulu, which is believed to be his last known address.
This is his manifesto. H/T to Ken Klippenstein

He had back surgery:

How and where was he radicalized? College , maybe?
In any case, the trial will be very interesting.
