UPDATE:
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) slapped Colbert and the Dems for their stupidity:
“Amnesty supporters frequently claim that Americans won’t do hard work, a claim which is insulting,” said King. “Maybe amnesty supporters should spend less time watching Comedy Central and more time considering all the real jobs that are out there that require hard labor and don’t involve sitting behind a desk. If they did, they would realize that every day American workers perform the dirtiest, most difficult, most dangerous jobs that can be thrown at them.”
“American workers will do any job and outwork anyone else on earth. The reality is employers hire desperate aliens who will work for much less than Americans, driving wages down and making it impossible for American workers to compete. Unless our immigration laws are enforced, American workers and families will continue to be undermined.”

UPDATE:
The circus entertainer performed as expected.
Stephen Colbert’s satirical routine as a conservative commentator on “The Colbert Report” leaves millions of his fans laughing every night, (Note: Not me) but the comedian failed to amuse lawmakers Friday during a House panel hearing on farm jobs and illegal immigrants.
The Comedy Central star stayed in character during testimony as he made light of his experience working for one day as a migrant laborer on a vegetable farm in New York.
“America’s farms are presently far too dependent on immigrant labor to pick our fruits and vegetables,” Colbert said. “Now the obvious answer is for all of us to stop eating fruits and vegetables, and if you look at the recent obesity statistics, you’ll see that many Americans have already started.”
While some audience members laughed, most of the members of the House Judiciary subcommittee barely cracked a smile.

Some idiots out there think allowing a moonbat who makes a living as a comedic faux conservative to testify before Congress, is hilarious.
12 million illegals aliens, many of them terrorists, rapists, murderers, pedophiles, and gang members, doesn’t strike me as funny.
As if the Dems didn’t have enough clowns in their party.
Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert is slated to testify at a congressional hearing Friday on immigration titled “Protecting America’s Harvest.”
One Republican source said Colbert will be testifying “in character,” the Bill O’Reilly-like muse Colbert uses for his show.
A House Judiciary Committee spokeswoman, confirming Colbert would testify, said the hearing matter was a “serious issue . . . this is not a TV stunt.”
Some Republicans have already expressed unhappiness with Colbert witnessing at the hearing, thinking it would make light of a serious issue.
The hearing is before the House Judiciary Committee’s immigration subcommittee.
…..In July, Colbert interviewed United Farm Workers (UFW) President Arturo Rodriguez on his show.
UFW works to legalize the millions of illegal immigrants working in the agriculture sector, and Rodriguez promoted one of their projects, “Take Our Jobs” which offers Americans the chance to try working in the fields if they really think good jobs are being lost to illegals.
……It’s inviting American citizens that want to work in the fields, that want to take those jobs, that want to do that agricultural work, to come out and do it. So we put up a website, takeourjobs.org and we’re inviting Americans throughout the United States to come and try to work in agriculture if they believe that immigrant farm workers are taking away good American jobs.”

Legalize=Amnesty, not bona fide citizenship. What kills me is that he’d rather keep illegal farm workers in their relegated status as low-paid chattel than have them get citizenship the right way.
And ‘scuse the hell outta me, but we harvested our crops just fine for decades; well before the flood of illegal aliens into this country.
And it’s not just farm work that’s being filled by illegals; it’s factory and construction jobs as well.
In Alabama, 70 American citizens were sent home from a construction site in support of Hurricane Katrina relief and replaced with illegals that were transported to the area. The employers announced that “the Mexicans had arrived” and unceremoniously fired the Americans the same day. What you have here is violation of Federal Law and international smuggling of illegals for the purpose of displacing American workers. This type of criminal activity is taking place all over the country. (http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2007/04/23/get-legal-or-get-out/)
And I have I suggestion for Rodiguez: “Take Your Ass Back to Mexico”. Ever heard of modern mechanization? There’s harvesting equipment that can dispense with the use of illegals.
Not only that, but he should take his ass to the nearest library and do some research on Title 8 of the U.S. Code, sections 1324 and 1325.
As for Colbert, let’s see how much this comedian knows about immigration law. Test his “expertise”. Ask serious questions about border security, federal statutes, and the additional felonies committed by illegals besides unauthorized entry into the United States.
The idea of having an assclown like Colbert testify before Congress is just one more reason why they’re a laughing stock.
I agree. Colbert’s funny on TV is his role, but congress really should focus on the serious. Even if Colbert — an extremely bright person — can add legitimate facts to this, just the fact that he is a professional comedian undermines the whole integrity. They couldn’t find ANY other legitimate resources? Not one?! You’re right, THEY are the joke.
LOUDelf,
I don’t like Colbert or Stewart for that matter. Both are cheeks on the same leftwing ass.
