Dem Judge Jails Salon Owner for Defying Unconstitutional Lockdown (UPDATED)

Business owners are arrested for defying the tyrannical government lockdown, but thousands of criminals are being released from jail, because, “pandemic”.

Warren Norred, attorney for Shelley Luther, discussed the decision by an Obama loyalist Texas judge to jail his client for reopening her salon during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Norred said the judge has exposed himself for the “tiny tyrant” that he is.

Update:

The Supreme Court of Texas ordered her release:

supreme court of texas orders salon owner released

The Texas Attorney General and the Governor have demanded the immediate release of Ms. Luther.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has called for the “immediate release” of a Dallas salon owner who was arrested and sent to jail for opening her business in defiance of Gov. Greg Abbott’s stay-at-home orders.

Shelley Luther, owner of Salon A La Mode, was sentenced to seven days in jail Tuesday after Dallas judge Eric Moye said she violated those orders as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Paxton said he believes the judge is abusing his authority and that her arrest seems like a “political stunt.” In a full statement, Paxton said:

“I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge, in a county that actually released hardened criminals for fear of contracting COVID-19, would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” said Attorney General Paxton. “The trial judge did not need to lock up Shelley Luther. His order is a shameful abuse of judicial discretion, which seems like another political stunt in Dallas. He should release Ms. Luther immediately.”

The attorney general sent a letter to Moye, saying her sentencing was “significantly overbroad.” He mentioned that Abbott’s new executive order will allow her to operate business starting on Friday.

What right does the government have to force people out of work and out of their own livelihoods, and tell them that they can’t go back?

This asshole judge needs to be thrown off the bench. Literally.

Salon À la Mode owner Shelley Luther was sentenced to seven days in jail for criminal and civil contempt and a $7,000 fine today for defying Governor Greg Abbott’s stay-at-home rules.

Dallas Judge Eric Moye found Luther continued to operate her hair salon in violation of the governor’s order and in violation of a restraining order from the court.

She and her business are also each being fined $500 for every day… seven in all so far… that it was open in violation of the governor’s order. Judge Moye said the salon would continue to rack up a $500 fine for every day it remains open between now and Friday – when Abbott has said all salons can open.

Last week, Luther received a cease-and-desist letter from Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins ordering her to close the salon — and she publicly ripped it up. In defying the order, Luther has gained many supporters, among them the Open Texas movement. Several of her supporters were at court, and weren’t visibly displeased by her arrest.

Moye told Luther he would consider not giving her jail time, if she admitted that she was wrong, that she was selfish, and that she should apologize to the elected officials whose orders she violated.

“I have much respect for this court and laws. I have never been in this position before and it’s not someplace that I want to be,” Luther responded. “But I have to disagree with you sir, when you say that I’m selfish because feeding my kids — is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry because they’d rather feed their kids. So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with you decision but I am not going to shut the salon.”

Oh and this just in:

Nice touch, Abbott. Maybe you can spring her from jail, now.

She’s ‘selfish’ because she wants to feed her kids. That fucking judge still has a job and a paycheck courtesy of the taxpayers. It’s easy to sit on a liberal Mt. Olympus and mete out punishment

Moye is an asshole, but he’s a Dem, so….

More on Moye:

……Moye, a lifelong Democrat, also tossed a lawsuit that would have disqualified more than 100 Democrats from being listed on the ballot in 2018 because the local party chairwoman failed to sign candidate applications.

In 1992, Moye was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and almost secured a federal judgeship under the Clinton administration. Since then, Moye has still worked on “numerous” Democratic campaigns throughout his career.
