Spread the wealth, Obama.
Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) — U.S. stocks swung between gains and losses after the nation’s unemployment rate surged past 10 percent for the first time since 1983, with General Electric Co. and Macy’s Inc. advancing after analysts upgraded their shares.
And what does Queen Nancy do? Continue her batshit-crazy drive for government-controlled health care.
As she (Pelosi) scrambled for votes, thousands of conservative “tea party” activists, called to action by talk-show hosts and fired up by House Republican leaders, protested at the Capitol on the spot where Pelosi a week ago rolled out her legislation. They blasted “Pelosi-care” as a threat to freedom, capitalism and the Constitution.
“This bill is the greatest threat to freedom that I have seen in the 19 years I have been here in Washington, taking away your freedom to choose your doctor, the freedom to buy health insurance on your own,” House minority leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, told the crowd.
Pelosi’s party holds a 40-vote margin over Republicans in the House, but Democrats in swing districts are worried about the cost and reach of the health care bill amid widespread joblessness and enormous federal deficits.
When all else fails, put on jack boots.
…Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and their Democratic followers in Congress have a rather draconian message for the private sector: Speak now, and we’ll make you forever hold your peace.
Up until a few weeks ago, America’s health insurers were sheepishly on board with the Obama-Pelosi health care reform plan. Perhaps the industry feared that voicing any concern about the plan would unleash the ire of an increasingly rabid Democratic majority on Capitol Hill. As it turns out, the health insurers were right.
No longer able to sit idly by while the President and his chief minion in the House amateurishly try to revamp one-sixth of the U.S. economy, the health insurance industry released a study they commissioned that analyzes the costs of the Obama-Pelosi plan. The results are quite sobering. The study shows that “between 2010 and 2019 the cumulative increases in the cost of a typical family policy under this reform proposal will be approximately $20,700 more than it would be under the current system.”
Rather than challenge the study’s results on merit, Obama and Pelosi wasted no time demonizing the health insurance industry with hyperbole and rhetoric. And then Pelosi lowered the boom, expressing “tremendous interest” in revoking the industry’s decades-old antitrust exemption. This proved to be no empty threat, as the Democrat-run House Judiciary Committee promptly passed a bill to do exactly that.
Now, curtailing the health insurance industry’s limited exemption from federal antitrust laws may or may not be good policy. But given the circumstances, this is beside the point.
The real issue is that Obama and Pelosi are using the power of Congress to muzzle the speech of a private sector industry, First Amendment be damned. It couldn’t be more blatant. Stay quiet about their disaster of a health plan, and Obama and Pelosi will leave you alone. Point out how their plan will actually make matters worse, and Obama and Pelosi will hit you back with new laws that hurt your business.
American citizens are not intimidated by Pelosi’s thuggish tactics. Congressional approval is in the cellar, and we’re not too keen on Dear Leader’s socialist kleptocracy, either.
Newsflash for Nancy: Americans will not tolerate more government interference, especially into our health care choices.
I’ve lived through 9 presidents so far, and I’ve never seen the likes of this tyrannical, out of control, dictatorship. These politicians honestly believe that they don’t have to be held accountable; that they don’t have to answer to anyone let alone the American people. Their hubris is obscene and intolerable.
I’ve let my Congressional representatives and Senators know exactly how I feel. They’re no strangers to my e-mails. The only way to get the attention of these bureaucratic effetes is to be combative, and I have no problem with that.
Pelosi and her Dem myrmidons are running scared. Look at the way they fling epithets, make threats, and hide from patriots who protest against this government trainwreck.
2010 will be a watershed for real change; voters will be handing out a lot of pink slips to the assclowns who signed on with the bailout/tax/spend/government-run healthcare orgy.
And 2012 cannot come soon enough.
