Hundreds of protestors rallied Saturday against the plan to give the alleged mastermind of 9/11 and four others a civilian trial in New York City.
“They are war criminals,” one of the speakers, firefighter and US marines veteran Peter Regan, said to cheers. “The terrorists should be tried in a military court.”
The crowd huddled under umbrellas in chilly rain outside New York’s federal courthouse where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other 9/11 suspects are due to be tried after being transferred from the controversial US prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The courthouse is a few blocks from Ground Zero, site of the former World Trade Center, which was destroyed on September 11, 2001 when hijacked airplanes slammed into the Twin Towers and into the Pentagon outside Washington, killing nearly 3,000 people.
The rally was organized by the 9/11 Never Forget Coalition, which argues that those responsible for 9/11 do not deserve the legal rights of US citizens.
……Many at the rally said they worried that bringing (Khalid Sheik) Mohammed, commonly referred to as KSM, to public trial would give the Al Qaeda figure and his co-accused a platform to make militant speeches.
“Holder is giving a megaphone to the terrorists to spout their hatred of this country,” said Sue Vaccaro, an elderly, elegantly dressed woman. “Do the terrorists give all these rights to our people when they cut their heads off?”
Kudos to these folks for not letting this idiotic move by Obama and Holder to go unchallenged.
Expect the protests to grow in size and volume when KSM is paraded in front of the civilian court.
