A prosecutor told a Douglas County Court judge Wednesday that a 19-year-old man admitted to beating and raping the woman because he had been drinking and was “angry with women.”
After reviewing the evidence, Judge Thomas K. Harmon ordered Sergio Perez held in jail without bail. Perez, who has no permanent address, is charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree assault and burglary.
According to the prosecution, Perez entered the woman’s South Omaha home through an unlocked door. He allegedly beat and raped her before falling asleep on top of her about 9 a.m. Sunday.
The woman’s daughter, who also lives in the residence, called 911. Officers said they discovered Perez nude and on top of the woman in a bedroom that had blood on the “walls, floor, ceiling and bed.”
The prosecution said that Perez admitted to police that he beat and raped the victim “because he was angry at women after a night of drinking.”
Perez and the woman do not know each other and have no connection, a circumstance that is highly unusual for violent crime. Perez told the judge through an interpreter that he has been working in the area as a roofer.
