Washington:
Rep Keith Ellison, Congress’ only Muslim, made a weekend trip to Iraq, where a pair of religious leaders urged him to help counter al-Qaida’s vision of Islam. Ellison, a Democrat, said he met in Ramadi with the leaders “who were very upset and concerned that al-Qaida is misrepresenting Islam.”
“And they were talking to me about what I can possibly do to work with them to give a clearer, more accurate picture of what Islam is all about,” he told reporters in conference call from Germany on his way back to the US.
Oh really? Do tell us what ‘Islam is all about’. Sharia law instructs ‘believers’ to inflict violence and death on ‘infidels’ if they don’t submit. The Koran is one of the most misogynist, vile, anti-Jew, anti-Christian, piece of Pulp Fiction there is.
These little tidbits say it all:
XVI.8: It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you, and if you (again return to disobedience) we too will return (to punishment), and We have made hell a prison for the unbelievers.
II.161: Surely those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, these it is on whom is the curse of Allah and the angels and men all.
IX. 5-6: Kill those who join other gods with God wherever you may find them.
IV.74: Let those who fight in the cause of God who barter the life of this world for that which is to come; for whoever fights on God’s path, whether he is killed or triumphs, We will give him a handsome reward. (Must be those 72 virgins)
VIII.39-42: Say to the Infidels: if they desist from their unbelief, what is now past shall be forgiven; but if they return to it, they have already before them the doom of the ancients! Fight then against them till strife be at an end, and the religion be all of it God’s.
4.56: (As for) those who disbelieve in Our communications, We shall make them enter fire; so oft as their skins are thoroughly burned, We will change them for other skins, that they may taste the chastisement; surely Allah is Mighty, Wise.
5.51: O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.
Just one of the verses concerning women:
4.34: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all)”
Oh yeah, the Koran is just chock full of “peace and love”. They’re trying to subjugate everyone through Koran-inspired bloodshed. Theo Van Gogh got one pinned to his chest with a knife thanks to one of those ‘peaceful practitioners’.
The al Qaeda is representing Islam. They are doing exactly what the Koran propagates.
Ellison said he would assist in any way he can. He is already helping a State Department outreach effort aimed at improving the image of the U.S. in the Muslim world.
Improve their image, Ellison. How ’bout convincing your raghead associates to bow on their prayer mats toward Mecca and worship peacefully instead of blowing things and people to bits in the name of Allah.
Ellison, a vocal critic of the Iraq war, said he still believes it was a mistake for the U.S. to invade Iraq. “But there are 150,000 American soldiers there now, and I care very deeply about them,” said Ellison, one of six members on the all-freshman trip led by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Calif. “I also care about the Iraqi people. I don’t want to see them suffer.”
The only mistake is that Ellison still doesn’t get it, and whatever revelation he had will last until the next visit to his local Mosque. His ‘caring about the Iraqi people’ was a tad lacking during Hussein’s reign of tyranny. “I care deeply about American Soldiers” is about as fake as a Chappaquiddick neck brace.
Ellison said that local leaders in Ramadi told him of how they partnered with U.S. and Iraqi military officials to virtually rid al-Qaeda from the city. Although the lawmakers had to travel in flak vests and helmets, “we did see people walking around the streets of Ramadi, going back and forth to the market.”
“The success in Ramadi is not just because of bombs and bullets, but because the U.S. and Iraqi military and the Iraqi police are partnering with the tribal leadership and the religious leadership,” he said. “So they’re not trying to just bomb people into submission. What they’re doing is respecting the people, giving the people some control over their own lives.”
Ellison’s quaint statement about “bombing them into submission” is ironic considering that’s exactly what the Muslims have been doing not just to ‘infidels’ but their own people. If Ellison’s friends at CAIR or Hamas had their way, giving respect and control to the Iraqis or Afghanis would be the least of their priorities.
Ellison said he was particularly impressed watching Maj. Gen. Walter Gaskin, U.S. commander in the Anbar province, greeting people with “as-salama aleikum,” meaning peace be upon you.
“And they would respond back with smiles and waves,” Ellison said. “I don’t want to overplay it. There were no flowers. There was no clapping. There was no parade. But there was a general level of respect and calm that I thought was good.”

We are winning and succeeding in this war but god forbid he “overplays” it. He sounds real disappointed at the contented population. Bad for the defeatist business as usual, see? Apparently, the Democratic House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) shares that view:
House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party’s efforts to press for a timetable to end the war.
Clyburn noted that Petraeus carries significant weight among the 47 members of the Blue Dog caucus in the House, a group of moderate to conservative Democrats. Without their support, he said, Democratic leaders would find it virtually impossible to pass legislation setting a timetable for withdrawal.
“I think there would be enough support in that group to want to stay the course and if the Republicans were to stay united as they have been, then it would be a problem for us,” Clyburn said. “We, by and large, would be wise to wait on the report.”
Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence in Baghdad. But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be “a real big problem for us.”

Ellison’s track record speaks for itself: Nation of Islam membership, accepting thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the terrorist front CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), and comparing the 11 September attacks and the Bush administration to a Reichtag fire during a meeting with “Atheists for Human Rights”.
During that meeting Ellison said: “It’s almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted.”
As for ‘understanding Islam’; 11 September, 2001 and the subsequent wholesale slaughter of thousands of innocent people in the name of “Allah” taught me everything I need to know.
This is the same Muslim who is vehemently opposed to our war against his radical Islamist brethren. This is the same bin Ladin mouthpiece who was elected thanks to the Somali Muslim population in his district, who shouted “Allahu akbar” when he won.
When he took the oath of office, he swore allegiance on a Koran.

You can’t get much more Islamofascist than that. Minnesota once had a reputation for voting the socialist ticket.
Guess that wasn’t quite extreme enough, eh?
JLS:
I have looked into Ellison’s positions and history and it speaks for itself. Why on earth would anyone align themselves with radical Islamist organizations, and not expect to be viewed as ‘objectionable’? The man adheres to a ‘religion’ based on violence and the perpetration of terrorism. The scary part is that someone with his proclivities was elected to our government. By the way, I would have the same viewpoint if he were a radical ‘Christian’ fundamentalist, like David Duke or if he were Communist: John Conyers and David Dinkins are glaring examples. I’m all for equal representation of political parties, but not of those who would overthrow our democracy (republic) and replace it with an oppressive regime based on theology (Islam) or radicalism (communist). Any one who supports or advocates the aforementioned philosophies has no business holding office in our country.

Oh, come on now. You should take a look into Rep. Ellison’s positions and history.
Being critical is a good and responsible thing to do, but I think you are being hysterical here. I am sure that you will not like many of his positions but that is because they are liberal, not because they follow any of the parts of Islam that you find objectionable. He is a believer in secular government, which you must admit is the exact opposite of the goals of the terrorists that are so scary to all of us.
