“For those who fight for it, life and freedom have a meaning the protected will never know”
From Ted Nugent:
As parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, we owe it to America’s finest to educate the youth of the United States that many brave Americans have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. Teach them that freedom isn’t free. Teach them that the American military has freed more people from the shackles of tyranny and slavery than any other force in the history of the world. Teach them to remember this not just on Memorial Day, but every day.
Each Memorial Day I think of the millions of souls who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving those words undeniable significance. As Veterans we don’t think of ourselves as special, but it takes a special person to volunteer to go into harms way so that others may go on about their daily lives without fear of oppression.
Americans in particular, take allot for granted. Compared to many other countries, we are very fortunate to have prosperity, guaranteed freedom of speech, worship, education, and choice of employment. Grocery stores are plentiful. The average household has at least 3 television sets. The standard of living in this country rates in the world’s top 15%. Outstanding emergency medical care is available regardless of economic status. Even the lowest per capita income in the United States is enough to support entire villages in Africa.
Our position as the world’s leading superpower has been earned through hard work, determination, guts, and ingenuity. It’s maintained and preserved by those sworn to protect and defend it.
Their contributions were and are immeasurable. From Valley Forge to the war against Islamofascist terrorism, Americans can sleep well knowing that their Soldiers are at the frontlines.
My Grandfather fought in World War II. I enlisted in the United States Army the year he officially retired—1976. It was a symbolic changing of the guard and I was proud to follow in the footsteps of his combat boots. I have had the privilege of knowing some of the finest people ever to wear the uniform, and I will never forget them.
Compare the way our nation used to rally behind the military, to the modern day public apathy and animosity leveled at them by the media.
It’s absolutely disgraceful.
A big salute to all the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guard veterans, and those still serving.
While you’re enjoying your bar-b-que and beer, take a moment to remember those who sacrificed so that you can enjoy this day in peace.
