Monster Kermit Gosnell Guilty on Three Murder Counts (UPDATED)

The mutherfucker deserves to be put to death, but instead he gets life in prison.

A Philadelphia abortion doctor convicted of killing three babies who were born alive in his grimy clinic agreed Tuesday to give up his right to an appeal and faces life in prison but will be spared a death sentence.

For more than three decades, Kermit Barron Gosnell made his name providing abortions in the most difficult cases – the poor, the uninsured, and women pushing the 24-week threshold when abortion becomes illegal in Pennsylvania.

Now the 72-year-old West Philadelphia physician has to save a life – his own – after a Common Pleas Court jury found him guilty Monday of killing three babies born alive during illegal late-term abortions.

Gosnell began his career during the 1960s’ “war on poverty,” helping found an urban medical clinic and a drug halfway house in Mantua.

……Even in the years before the 2010 drug raid that closed his clinic and led to his arrest, Gosnell’s family practice was known for never turning away patients regardless of their ability to pay.

……The jury also returned the lesser verdict of involuntary manslaughter – instead of the third-degree murder that prosecutors urged – in the 2009 death of an abortion patient, Karnamaya Mongar, 41, of Virginia, who the jury determined was overdosed on Demerol by Gosnell’s untrained staff.

The grisly details: Former clinic employees testified that Gosnell routinely performed illegal late-term abortions past Pennsylvania’s 24-week limit, that he delivered babies who were still moving, whimpering or breathing, and that he and his assistants “snipped” the newborns’ spines, as he referred to it.

“Are you human?” prosecutor Ed Cameron snarled during closing arguments as Gosnell sat calmly at the defense table. “To med these women up and stick knives in the backs of babies?”

Authorities said the clinic was a foul-smelling “house of horrors” with bags and bottles of stored fetuses, including jars of severed feet, along with bloodstained furniture, dirty medical instruments, and cats roaming the premises.

……Pennsylvania authorities had failed to conduct routine inspections of all of its abortion clinics for 15 years by the time Gosnell’s facility was raided and closed down. In the scandal’s aftermath, two top state health department officials were fired, and Pennsylvania imposed tougher rules for clinics.

……Baby E let out a soft whimper before Gosnell cut its neck, prosecutors alleged. Gosnell was acquitted in that baby’s death, the only one of the four in which no eyewitness account was given during the trial.

Gosnell’s attorney, Jack McMahon, argued that none of the fetuses was born alive and that any movements were posthumous twitching or spasms.

He also contended that the 2009 death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar of Woodbridge, Va., a Bhutanese immigrant who had been given repeated doses of Demerol and other powerful drugs to sedate her and induce labor, was caused by unforeseen complications.

Gosnell was also convicted of infanticide, racketeering and more than 200 counts of violating Pennsylvania’s abortion laws by performing third-term abortions or failing to counsel women 24 hours in advance.

……Prosecutors described Gosnell’s employees as nearly as desperate as the patients. Some had little or no medical training, and at least one was a teenager still in high school. One woman needed the work to support her children after her husband’s murder.

Gosnell is an aberration in the medical community. He ran a late-term abortion mill, with untrained staff, under extremely filthy conditions. The city of Philadelphia was criminally negligent in the way it ignored Gosnell’s violations.

I firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose, but late term abortions are and should be illegal, unless there’s a severe medical condition or the life of the mother is in danger.  By that stage of the pregnancy, she should have determined whether or not she would carry it to birth.  These were not early abortions. They were viable babies only a few weeks from birth.

His defense lawyer, an expert with the race card, claimed that the trial was an “elitist, racist, prosecution”.

A little background on McMahon:

In 1997, McMahon — then a prosecutor — unsuccessfully challenged former D.A. Lynne Abraham for District Attorney. Shortly after he announced his candidacy, a controversial video surfaced wherein he was seen teaching lawyers questionable techniques for gaming the jury-selection process by using race as a criterion.

The majority of the Gosnell  jurors were black.

His wife, Pearl Gosnell, was found guilty of criminal conspiracy, corrupt organization and performing illegal abortions.

The trial moves next week into a sentencing phase to decide whether Gosnell should receive the death penalty or face life in prison on the capital murder counts.

Just take his ass out and shoot him.
