A man who threatened multiple Christian churches with hoax bomb threats, apparently motivated by Islam, received a federal prison sentence on Friday.
Zimnako Salah of Phoenix, Arizona, was convicted in March of strapping a backpack to a toilet at a church in Roseville, Arizona, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
His actions were a hate crime since he targeted the church “because of the religion of the people who worshipped there.”
Throughout the fall of 2023, Salah planted two backpacks in different churches, and was apprehended by security at two other churches while attempting to do the same.
At one church in Scottsdale, Arizona, Salah left a backpack among the church pews, according to a report from CBS News.
FBI agents recovered component parts of an IED in his storage unit, according to the Department of Justice news release.
Among the items in Salah’s unit were propane canisters, strips of duct tape, wires and wire cutters, a battery, and an Islamic Quran.
Salah had meanwhile looked up videos of “infidels dying” on social media, as well as videos of ISIS militants committing murders.
He said on social media that “we are going to destroy” America days before his crimes.
U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said in the news release that “Salah’s seeming ultimate goal to bomb a Christian church would have resulted in many deaths and injuries if his plan had not been thwarted.”

The individual had planned to harm congregants and disrupt the peaceful practices of Christian churches in the southwest, including Arizona, with his intent to convey a hoax bomb threat.
After an 11-day trial, a federal jury found Zimnako Salah guilty of attempting to disrupt a Christian church in Roseville, California. The 45-year-old male was convicted for placing a backpack on a toilet at the church with the intent to create a hoax bomb threat and interfere with the religious practices of its congregants. The jury also determined that Salah specifically targeted the church due to the faith of those who worshipped there, classifying the offense as a hate crime.
Federal officials claim Salah visited four Christian churches from September to November 2023 in Arizona, California, and Colorado. At two of the churches, he planted black backpacks inside, causing congregants to believe there were bombs inside. At the other two churches, he was stopped by security guards before he could leave the bags in the churches.
Salad had also been assembling a bomb small enough to fit inside a backpack, and during a search of his storage unit, FBI Bomb Technicians discovered materials that were components for creating an improvised explosive device (IED). Investigators also searched his social media records, revealing that he had been searching “extremist propaganda online,” including videos of “Infidels dying.” Court documents also reveal that he had been watching videos showing ISIS terrorists committing murders.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the incident, vowing that the “perpetrator of this abhorrent hate crime against Christians will face severe punishment.”
The fake bombs were a test run. He was constructing a real IED capable of fitting in a backpack.
Islam should be wiped off the face of the earth. It’s a scourge on humanity. It’s a terrorist ideology masquerading as a “religion”.
Islam is diametrically opposed to every Constitutional principle on which this country was founded. Under the muzzie point of view, Sharia law trumps all other laws. It’s meant to overtake and replace all Western civil, criminal, and government jurisdiction. The founding principles of this country did not hinge on a violent ideological theocracy that advocated the deaths of those who didn’t hold the same religious beliefs. Letting them thrive here is suicidal.
