Real Hope and Change: CLASS Cut from ObamaCare

THE ONE’s socialist health care takeover is crumbling because of outrageous projected costs, but he already knew that.

CLASS is cancelled. The Obama administration now says that it will not go forward with the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act, a long-term care benefit attached to ObamaCare that was responsible for roughly half of the law’s scored deficit reduction. In a letter to Republican House Speaker John Boehner, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius wrote that “despite our best analytical efforts, I do not see a viable path forward for CLASS implementation at this time.”

The financial solvency was supposed to come in the form of squeezing taxpayers.

For decades Democrats have been trying to put government on the hook for middle-class costs like home health services ($1,800 a month on average) and nursing homes ($70,000 to $80,000 per year). On paper, Class was supposed to be like normal insurance, funding benefits through premiums with no subsidy. But since the budget gimmick and the program’s larger structure meant that premiums could never cover benefits, Democrats were trying to force a future Congress to prevent a Class bankruptcy using taxpayer dollars.

The Dems shut the Republicans and the American people out of the process, hammering out this socialist Frankenstein behind closed doors, screaming epithets at opponents, and insisted they had to “pass the bill to see what was in it”. Those of us who actually read the unconstitutional, costly mess already knew the consequences.

Thanks for proving us right, Sebelius.
