UPDATE: From Fox News.
The fledgling rebellion against electing John Boehner to a third term as House speaker gained momentum over the weekend, as nine conservative Republicans declared they intend to vote against the Ohio Republican when the House convenes on Tuesday.
Among them, Reps. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and Ted Yoho, R-Fla., also have announced they will challenge Boehner for the position.
“We lack a leadership and we lack vision of where the country’s going,” Yoho told Fox News on Monday. “It’s just not me feeling this.”
Yoho said he’ll keep his hat in the ring, even after Gohmert announced his own bid on Sunday.
The odds of the effort unseating Boehner remain slim. Sending the election to a second ballot would require 28 votes against Boehner. No election of a speaker of the House has gone that far since 1923, when Frederick Gillette, R-Mass., won re-election on the ninth ballot. The vote is typically a formality and split along party lines.
Yoho said Monday, though, that reaching a second round is their goal and “we fully anticipate to get there.”
The nine members who have declared their opposition to Boehner are Yoho and Gohmert, and Reps. Jim Bridenstine, R-Okla.; Paul Gosar, R-Ariz.; Steve King, R-Iowa; Dave Brat, R-Va.; Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind.; Water Jones, R-N.C.; and Thomas Massie, R-Ky.
“We have heard from a lot of Republicans that said, ‘I would vote for somebody besides Speaker Boehner, but nobody will put their name out there,'” Gohmert told “Fox & Friends” on Sunday morning, in announcing his own bid. “That changed [Saturday] with Ted Yoho.” Gohmert also hinted that at least one other member would launch a challenge from within the GOP.
Bridenstine, who released a statement late Sunday referring to the rebels as a “Gang of Nine,” hinted that more of his colleagues would make their opposition to Boehner public, vowing “Monday, we will be in double digits.”
Jones, the North Carolina congressman, told The Washington Times that as many as 18 conservatives will look to vote against Boehner.
Gohmert is a hell of a lot better than Boehner. I hope he succeeds.
From The Hill.
Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Texas) said Sunday that he will challenge John Boehner (R-Ohio) as Speaker in the new Congress.
“I’m putting my name out there today to be another candidate for Speaker,” Gohmert said on “Fox and Friends.”Gohmert said that after “years of broken promises, it’s time for a change.”
Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) on Saturday announced that he would not support Boehner for Speaker.
“This is not a personal attack against Mr. Boehner, however, the people desire and deserve a choice,” Yoho said in a Facebook post. “In November, they resoundingly rejected the status quo.”
“Eventually, the goal is second, third, fourth round, we have enough people that say ‘you know what, it really is time for a change,’ ” Gohmert said Sunday. “’You deceived us when you went to Obama and Pelosi to get your votes for the cromnibus. You said you’d fight amnesty tooth an nail. You didn’t, you funded it.’ ”
Gohmert said, if elected, he would ”fight amnesty tooth and nail. We’ll use the powers of the purse. We’ll have better oversight. We’ll fight to defund ObamaCare.”
“In 2010, Boehner and other leaders said if you put us in the majority, we will have time to read the bills,” Gohmert said. “That hasn’t happened. We saw that with the cromnibus, again.”
“We’ll get back to appropriating and we will go through regular committee process, so every representative from both parties will have a chance to participate in the process and not have a dictator running things,” he added.
“With a growing Republican majority in the House and a historically high number of liberty-voting fiscal conservatives within it, there is an urgent need replace Speaker Boehner with fresh, bold leadership that better represents the views of the whole caucus,” FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe said in a statement on Sunday.
“Speaker Boehner has kicked fiscal conservatives off committee positions for voting against his wishes, caved on numerous massive spending bills at the eleventh hour, and abused the legislative process to stomp out opposition by holding surprise votes and giving members little time to actually read the bills before they vote,” Kibbe added.
That’s a fucking understatement. Boehner is a gutless wonder. He did not do what we elected him to do. He has a considerable history of being a total wuss when it comes to standing up to the Dems and their corruption.
Boehner surrenders so much, he should have a white flag tattooed on his ass. He refuses to advocate impeachment for Obama. He capitulated twice to Obama over the debt ceiling with no strings attached, and the pompous ass had the gall to dismiss concerns over his feckless behavior with a sarcastic rendition of Zip a Dee Doo Dah as he exited a press conference.
He also disrespected fellow Republicans who take issue with his chickenshit approach to ‘immigration reform’. And he’s refused to have Lois Lerner arrested for her unlawful, unconstitutional targeting of conservative groups.
The conservative group will urge activists to contact their representatives ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
Incoming Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that she would vote for Boehner.
“We voted in our conference in November, and … it was near unanimous. I think there was one weak voice that didn’t say, that may have said ‘nay.’ There hasn’t been a campaign or any phone calls that anyone has received, so I expect that will move forward very smoothly.”
Louis Gohmert stood up to the most corrupt attorney general in U.S. history. He strongly opposed taxpayer-funded housing for illegals and offered an amendment to the FY 2015 Transportation-HUD appropriations bill (H.R. 4745) to cut off Section 8 housing for the vermin who are in this country illegally. He also grilled FBI director Robert Mueller about his agency’s craptastic stupidity over the Islamic terrorist attack during the Boston marathon, the refusal to perform an investigation on the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups, and his feigning ignorance concerning the terrorist attack on the American embassy in Benghazi .
He would make a very good Speaker of the House.
