Starmer Resigns

Well, this is at least one bad British mistake that’s gone. We’ll see how the replacement works out.

President Trump announced Starmer’s departure first.

New York Post

Sir Keir Starmer choked up as he announced his resignation as UK prime minister Monday — less than two years after the Labour Party stormed to a landslide general election win.

Starmer, 63, set out a timetable to stand down after coming under mounting pressure following last month’s local elections, in which the governing Labour Party lost over 1,000 seats.

The prime minister announced his intention to step down after admitting the Labour Party was questioning whether he could lead it into the next general election, which must be held before July 2029, just 23 months after leading his party to a huge win.

“I have heard the answer of my parliamentary party to that question, and I accept that answer with good grace,” Starmer said outside 10 Downing Street in London.

“Every decision I’ve taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party. I have spoken to his majesty the king this morning to inform him of my decision.”

…….Starmer confirmed nominations to elect a new leader will open on July 9 and the process will be completed by the summer recess.

This paves the way for either a coronation or a contest in which Labour members will decide who is the party’s next leader, and the UK’s next prime minister.

Andy Burnham, the former Greater Manchester mayor, is the overwhelming favorite to succeed Starmer.

He defeated Reform UK by almost 20 percentage points in last week’s by-election in the pro-Brexit northwest England constituency of Makerfield.

New York Post

……..Starmer’s Britain is a nation scarred by riots, fractured by social division, overrun with illegal immigrants and full of fuming Brits demanding to know how it all went so wrong.

I’ll tell you how: Because while Starmer posed as a sensible centrist, he let himself be dragged ever more leftward.

He promised to put out the fires of the Culture Wars, but ended up taking the side of the crackpot left in their infernal battle with normalcy. He bowed to the progressive bigotry that treats patriotism as racism, criticism of radical Islam as a “phobia” and freedom of speech as a threat to the social fabric.

……..President Trump was bang on when he said Starmer “failed badly” on two big issues: “immigration and energy.” Our borders are broken and our abundant natural resources are stuck underground — all because of woke ideology.

Then there was Starmer’s disdain for everyday Brits.

When people hoisted up the England flag last summer, in defiance of the fashionably ashamed elites, he sneered.

One of his MPs said her “stomach churned” at the sight of these “tatty bits of cloth” — what a way to talk about the national banner.

Starmer tried to enforce a definition of “Islamophobia” to curb what us oiks can say about Islam.

…….Back in 2020, he took the knee for career criminal George Floyd; this year he flat out refused to take the knee for Henry Nowak, the sweet British student who was brutally murdered by a Sikh and then manhandled by police who falsely suspected him of racism.

Starmer’s legacy is on par with the disasters left behind by Obama and Biden.

His welcome mat for hostile foreign invaders was far worse than any of his predecessors.

Muzzie grooming and rape gangs are rampant thanks to Starmer’s depraved indifference and negligence, and criminal malfeasance shown by the British authorities.

Thousands of British and Irish citizens took to the streets to take back their countries. They are fed up with the bullshit.

Like all liberal politicians, Starmer destroyed an entire nation, and just walks away with no punishment or consequences.

Burnham talks like a centrist, but that doesn’t mean shit.

The Telegraph

No contest. No debate. No argument. Andy Burnham will just walk into Downing Street and tell us – in his own time – what he plans to do in government. The people who might have opposed him (Wes Streeting and a few others who never actually declared) will get Cabinet jobs and a new Labour leadership team will be installed in power.

The explanation for this beatific unanimity will be credible. The country was in political crisis, confidence in government was at a record-breaking low, blah-blah. This is no time for dissension and rancor, let alone mutual accusation.

I can write the script for them: we cannot afford the luxury of extended disputation. There is an urgent need now for competence and effectual judgment. Dissension and prolonged argument will just look like more self-indulgent indecision. It will promote bitterness and rancor rather than cooperation and good will.

So let’s join together and put the national interest above personal power play. This message will be sold as an exercise in selfless devotion to the people, rather than a shutting down of discussion which might have given those people a chance to make choices of their own.

It is true, as both parties constantly reiterate, that we do not live in a presidential system. The constitutional arrangements of parliamentary democracy specify that it is not the voters who elect a prime minister. You vote for a local MP, a party representative, who is sent to Westminster, and that is the beginning and the end of your role in choosing a government.

…….Andy Burnham will take power without ever having had to expose his plans or even his opinions to his own MPs or to the wider membership of his party, let alone to the population as a whole. They, and we, will have to take what we are given. This is perfectly legal – and morally outrageous.

We’ll see what happens.
