Investigators said Thursday they have recovered 32,000 emails in backup tapes related to the Internal Revenue Service targeting of conservative organizations.
Though they don’t know how many of them are new, they told a congressional oversight committee that IRS employees had not asked computer technicians for the tapes, as directed by a subpoena from House oversight and other investigating committees.
That admission was in direct contradiction to earlier testimony of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.
“It looks like we’ve been lied to, or at least misled,” said Rep. John Mica, R-Fla. at a congressional hearing Thursday evening…
He lied his ass off. By the way, Koskinen wholeheartedly supported the targeting of Tea Party groups and has donated thousands of dollars to Dem candidates, Obama included.
IRS Deputy Inspector General Timothy Camus, who testified alongside Inspector General J. Russell George, said his organization was investigating possible criminal activity. He did not elaborate, other than to suggest a key factor is whether documents were intentionally withheld.
The emails were to and from Lois Lerner, who used to head the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. Last June, the IRS told Congress it had lost an unknown number of Lerner’s email when her computer hard drive crashed in 2011.
It was at that point Lerner claimed, “the computer dog ate my IRS homework”
At the time, IRS officials said the emails could not be recovered. But Camus said investigators recovered thousands of emails from old computer tapes used to back up the agency’s email system, though he said he believed some tapes had been erased.
“We recovered quite a number of emails, but until we compare those to what’s already been produced we don’t know if they’re new emails,” Camus told the House Oversight Committee.
For a long time all the incriminating emails were buried by IRS officials seemed to have vanished into thin air, but they knew where they were. Turns out they were magically found where, by law, they were supposed to be stored as backup.
Neither Camus nor George would describe the contents of any of the emails at Thursday’s hearing.
As if we don’t know what the contents are.
Though the IG’s office is looking at possible criminal activity, Washington, D.C.-based attorney Patrick O’Donnell said the Justice Department would have the final say on whether anyone at the IRS would face charges.
They expect the same Department of ‘Justice’ that has committed its own fair share of crimes, to prosecute an IRS malfeasant.
Yeah, good luck with that.
This crime goes all the way up to Obama. Under his direction, the IRS didn’t have any trouble defining his preference of sympathetic leftwing groups over Tea Party/GOP organizations. Any request from groups with “patriot”, Tea Party”, or “conservative” in their name was automatically placed at the bottom of the pile or discarded entirely. IRS employees testified to that fact, and much more.
According to 2012 emails obtained by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, top Internal Revenue Service Obamacare official Sarah Hall Ingram discussed confidential taxpayer information with senior Obama White House officials.
Lois Lerner, then head of the IRS Tax Exempt Organizations division, also received an email alongside White House officials that contained confidential information. More emails uncover Lerner’s role in the conspiracy, including proof that she gave confidential taxpayer information to the FEC, violating federal law. She was also caught on tape discussing the pressure being put on the IRS to do something about the money being spent by conservatives on the election as a result of Citizens United. Guess where the pressure came from.
J. Christian Adams, the former DOJ attorney who blew the whistle on Holder’s refusal to prosecute the Black Panthers for voter intimidation, was himself targeted by the IRS for critical articles he published in Pajamas Media.
Obama met with top IRS official William Wilkins before the targeting began. As a matter of fact, a Cincinnati IRS employee testified that it was quite clear the orders came from D.C.
The IRS engaged in the deliberate suppression, harassment, and intimidation of patriotic and conservative groups, and those who focus on the Constitution and criticize government spending.
Documents reveal that the IRS targeted specific groups by name.
All this fucking bluster by the GOP during hearings over the numerous violations of the law and the constitution by the Obama regime won’t mean a goddamned thing unless they get off their asses and start issuing warrants and criminal charges.
