A gunman shot and killed more than two dozen people during a Sunday service at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, state officials said.
Police say the shooter, who has been identified as 26-year-old Devin P. Kelley of New Braunfels, Texas, walked inside the church and opened fire just before 11:30 a.m. local time.
Kelley was dressed in a mask and tactical gear and used a semi-automatic rifle to unload “clip after clip” into the church, a neighbor who witnessed the shooting told San Antonio’s ABC affiliate KSAT News.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed that 26 people were killed and as many as 30 other wounded in the shooting. The death toll makes the attack the deadliest shooting at a place of worship in American history.
“We all know what happened here today. It’s something we all say does not happen in small communities,” Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said at a Sunday evening press conference. “Today we found out that it does.”
The victims ranged from 5 to 72 years old, officials said. First responders found 23 dead bodies inside the church, two more outside, and one person who was transported to a hospital but later died.
One of those killed was a 14-year-old girl named Annabelle Renee Pomeroy, her father Frank Pomeroy confirmed to ABC News. Frank Pomeroy, who is a pastor at First Baptist, said he was in Oklahoma for the weekend, one of the rare instances when he is not at the church on Sunday.
As Kelley exited the church, he was confronted by a local resident armed with his own weapon, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Regional Director Freeman Martin. The resident began firing at the gunman, causing him to flee in his vehicle toward neighboring Guadalupe County.
The little nutbag was court-martialed and received a bad conduct discharge from the Air Force in May 2014, for assaulting his wife and child.
Oh, and he was a ‘friendly atheist’.
More of the things he liked:
Apparently, whipping out a rifle and mowing down Christians at a church service is an atheist’s way of saying “howdy”.
And he claimed to be quite the humanitarian.
BTW: He was stopped by a good guy with a gun.
His reputation for ‘creepy and crazy’ started in high school:
Former classmates of Texas church shooter Devin Kelley say he was a ‘creepy’, ‘crazy’ and ‘weird,’ person who preached about atheism on the internet. On Sunday, Kelley opened fire inside First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, outside of San Antonio, killing 26 people and injuring 24.
“Nina Rose Nava, who went to school with the gunman, wrote on Facebook: ‘In (sic) in complete shock! I legit just deleted him off my fb cause I couldn’t stand his post.
‘He was always talking about how people who believe in God we’re stupid and trying to preach his atheism’
Michael Goff added: ‘He was weird but never that damn weird, always posting his atheist sh** like Nina wrote, but damn he always posted pics of him and his baby – crazy.’
‘He was an outcast but not a loner. He was popular among other outcast. I haven’t spoke to him since high school.’
Another former classmate, who asked to remain anonymous, told DailyMail.com: ‘I grew up going to school with him… Always creeped me out and was different.’
The leftie lunatic fringe is jumping with joy over the slaughter of “Trump voters” in a church.
Allsup is referring to this comment from the shitbag:
He was a militant leftwing atheist who hated religion, Christians in particular. Too bad the mutherfucker didn’t walk into a mosque full of muzzies and open fire. That would have been more justified, considering what they’ve done for humanity.
The only small consolation is Kelly blew his own brains out after he was cornered, thus saving the taxpayers the cost of putting his worthless ass through a trial.
