Workers at a Volkswagen factory in Tennessee have voted against union representation in a devastating defeat for the United Auto Workers union’s effort to make inroads in the South.
The 712-626 vote released late Friday was surprising for many labor experts and union supporters who expected a UAW win because Volkswagen tacitly endorsed the union and even allowed organizers into the Chattanooga factory to make sales pitches.
……The setback is a major defeat for the UAW’s effort to expand in the growing South, where foreign automakers have 14 assembly plants, eight built in the past decade, said Kristin Dziczek, director of the labor and industry group at the Center for Automotive Research, an industry think tank in Michigan.
“If this was going to work anywhere, this is where it was going to work,” she said of Chattanooga.
The union thugs are none too pleased. They’re bitching about “outside influence” and plan on crying to the National Labor Relations Board.
Unions stifle the economic growth of this country, and are partly responsible for bankrupting states and forcing companies out of business.
Hostess, a company that had been in business since 1925, had to file for bankruptcy in 2012, thanks to the unions which refused to negotiate so that the company could continue to stay in business.
Unions forced their way into the workplace, extorting dues and using the money for political contributions. They financed their pensions on the backs of the taxpayer, and artificially jacked up the wages of union workers at least 28% higher than rank and file private employees. Private sector workers have always paid a percentage of their salary into their retirement benefits, but unions historically have refused to do so.
Unions are at the forefront of why this country is in such bad economic shape. The average citizen is fed up with union thugs and their Dem pals. We’re sick of watching our industrial base disintegrate and the devastation left behind when unions kill the economic base of towns. I know, I come from the rust belt.
Getting bitch-slapped in Wisconsin, South Carolina, and now Tennessee, is a sign of things to come. The tide is turning for a damned good reason. American workers are sick to death of the union mafia.
