A Guantanamo detainee transferred to the U.S. for trial in the American embassy bombings in Africa wants to keep his military defense team, one of the attorneys said Tuesday.
Two Pentagon-appointed attorneys for Ahmed Ghailani were traveling to New York for his arraignment Tuesday afternoon in hopes of staying on the case, Marine Col. Jeffrey Colwell said in a telephone interview from Washington.
“First and foremost is what he wants,” Colwell said of his client. “We’ve got a good working relationship.”

……Ghailani is the first detainee from the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to be transferred to the United States under an Obama administration plan to prosecute some of the remaining 240 prisoners in the federal court system.
……As a “high-value” detainee, Ghailani, a Tanzanian, has been held since 2006 at a secret Guantanamo prison reserved for prisoners transferred out of CIA custody. He was arraigned at Guantanamo in October. At a closed hearing in 2007, he said that he unwittingly delivered the explosives for the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania.
More than 200 people were killed in the simultaneous attacks in August 1998 on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
……Ghailani, who spoke English at times during the hearing, said he went to an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan after the bombing, because he wanted military training for self-defense. While there, he said, he met Osama bin Laden.
He was captured in Pakistan in 2004.

He ‘unwittingly’ delivered enough explosives to blow two embassy buildings to smithereens. The cohorts on the receiving end ‘unwittingly’ used these explosives to kill over 200 people for the ‘religion of peace’.
If all goes well, the little douchebag will get his wits back just as he’s sentenced (hopefully) to death.
