Border Patrol officials struggling to keep up with the increasing number of minors illegally crossing the Mexican border are not turning away persons with known gang affiliations. Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valley, explained that a Border Patrol agent he represents helped reunite a teenage gang member with his family in the United States. Cabrera notes the young member of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a transnational criminal gang, had no criminal record in the U.S., but asks, “If he’s a confirmed gang member in his own country, why are we letting him in here?”

“I’ve heard people come in and say, ‘You’re going to let me go, just like you let my mother go, just like you let my sister go. You’re going to let me go as well, and the government’s going to take care of us,’” Cabrera says. “Until we start mandatory detentions, mandatory removals, I don’t think anything is going to change. As a matter of fact, I think it’s going to get worse.”

Border Patrol officials have taken responsibility for the well-being of the illegal immigrants, providing sandwiches and water three times a day. “You would not believe how many sandwiches I’ve made over the course of my career,” Cabrera says. In Nogales, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have brought in vendors to provide food, while FEMA has sought to provide counseling and recreational activities, according to FoxNews.com. Cueto says the children are being vaccinated before being turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. ICE is then transporting them to military bases in California, Oklahoma, and San Antonio, Texas, according to CBS Houston.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is welcoming members of Congress and their senior staff to tour a temporary shelter being used to house illegal immigrant children — but the invite comes with a list of rules, including a suggestion that members leave their cellphones in their vehicles.

The 40-minute tour will take place Friday at the Ventura County Naval Base in Oxnard, Calif., according to the email invitation, obtained by The Daily Caller.

The tours are meant to give members and staffers an inside look at how temporary facilities are being used to house illegal immigrant children who came to the U.S. without their parents. The minors, who hail mostly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, are being called “Unaccompanied Children,” or UACs.

Sent to members of Congress and staff by Rose Hacking, of the office of the assistant secretary of legislation at HHS, the invitation comes with the following commands:

No recording devices will be allowed (We may ask you to leave your cellphone in our vehicle)
No questions will be allowed during the tour, but questions will be addressed later
No interacting with staff and children at the shelter
We will provide photos of the facility after the tour

During the tour, ”the tour guide will detail what goes on from room to room and the services youth are provided on a daily basis,” the email invitation reads.

But one congressional staffer invited to tour the facility called the planned tours “a dog and pony show.”

“Don’t talk to anyone, don’t record anything you might happen to see, but come visit us and we’ll give you a sanitized story with only the photos and accounts we want you to have,” said the staffer, who requested anonymity.

“This isn’t some totalitarian closed society trying this tactic, this is our own government. They clearly wouldn’t be offering up this kind of dog and pony show if they weren’t hiding a very ugly truth somewhere.”

The staffer hasn’t been paying attention the last five years. The Obama regime is a totalitarian closed society.

……Rather than being turned away at the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. immigration policy requires UACs to be placed in temporary shelters. From there, federal agencies begin deportation proceedings while looking for relatives or sponsors to house them.

The administration has not been clear on how many of the UACs end up being returned to their home countries and how many end up staying in the U.S.

They simply find other “sponsors” and relatives who are also illegals.

Border agents are threatened with ‘disciplinary action’ and ‘criminal charges’ if they tell the truth:

A surge of thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has left federal resources and facilities overwhelmed. Most of the new migrants are children from Central America. In the aftermath of Breitbart Texas releasing photos showing minors warehoused in crowded U.S. cells, Border Patrol agents in Texas have been instructed not to speak to media outlets.

The Associated Press (AP) obtained an email from Eligio “Lee” Pena, an assistant patrol agent, that ordered more than 3,000 agents to not speak to reporters about the “humanitarian crisis.” The email allegedly said that reporters are likely to press for details and “may try to disguise themselves” in the process.”

Pena’s email went on to warn agents that they could be disciplined or even charged with a crime if they speak to media, according to the AP.

Since the news of the spike in foreign minors, Border Patrol contacts–many of whom used to speak on the record regularly–have not returned numerous phone calls or emails from Breitbart Texas.

The silence comes in the face of the apprehension of 47,000 foreign children traveling alone to the U.S. since October.

Arizona Republicans are making threats of their own:

Arizona officials are threatening legal action to stop the Obama administration from moving hundreds of undocumented immigrants from Texas to their state after a surge of illegal border crossings swamped immigration officials in the Rio Grande Valley.

The U.S. Border Patrol has acknowledged flying hundreds of migrants from Texas to Tucson and Phoenix, where many have been dropped off at Greyhound bus stations. Last week, immigration agencies began sending hundreds of undocumented minors apprehended while crossing the border to a holding facility in Nogales.

Arizona officials say they were not notified before the transports began.

In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne (R) insisted the department’s border security units stop the transports.

“These aliens are not being transported for the purposes of detaining them in a federal facility located in Arizona. Rather, DHS is inexplicably moving them some 1200 miles and simply releasing them here (outdoors in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees) rather than in Texas,” Horne wrote[pdf].

Arizona state law prevents Horne from bringing suit against the federal government directly, but he could find someone else to sue.

Critics of the facilities where minors are held, ranging from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to the American Civil Liberties Union, have demanded access to assess conditions they say are substandard. McCain on Thursday called for Customs and Porter Patrol to allow media access to the Nogales Processing Center.

“There is only one way of knowing what the treatment is and that’s for the media to allowed access,” McCain said Thursday on an Arizona radio show. “We need you and any media outlet that wants to be there to be there. What kind of society are we in?”
In a letter to Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske, McCain and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) called the situation a “humanitarian crisis.” McCain and Flake also asked for a hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

The influx of immigrants is heating up a years-old debate within Arizona political circles. Horne faces a strong Republican challenger after allegations he broke campaign finance law, and acting tough on immigration is a certain vote-getter in GOP primaries. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) is using the crisis to raise money for her federal political action committee.

The Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have reported a dramatic spike in the number of people caught crossing the border illegally. In January, just 28,000 people attempted to cross the border; that number spiked to 60,000 in May, according to McCain’s office.
