Thoughts on the Latest Oil Spill

The Obama administration downplayed the explosion until it became apparent that it was more serious than they thought. Then they blamed BP to avert attention. The government, by legislation, was supposed to have emergency measures in place to deal with future oil spills. They didn’t. Not only that, but they had to go looking around for things like oil fire containment booms. The Coast Guard was on the scene in a timely manner and performed rescue ops. This has political implications; it will be used as a “never let a good crisis go to waste” moment for politicians and eco-nuts who are against off shore drilling, even though it would help us gain energy independence. It’s been a long time since something like this has happened, but unfortunately, accidents occur. Response time and procedures have to be improved.  Period.
