C’mon, ya statist government punk; tell us how ya really feel.
An Albany cop-union boss just let the protect-and-serve mask slip.
Albany Police Officers Union President Chris Mesley says that, regardless of the faltering economy, a no-raise new contract is unacceptable.
And to hell with the public.
“I’m not running a popularity contest here,” Mesley said. “If I’m the bad guy to the average citizen . . . and their taxes have go up to cover my raise, I’m very sorry about that, but I have to look out for myself and my membership.”
Mesley added: “As the president of the local, I will not accept ‘zeroes.’ If that means . . . ticking off some taxpayers, then so be it.”

More from John Stossel:
Other unions are just as bad. When mayor Bloomberg proposed to increase teacher salaries by “just” 2 percent last month, the UFT responded, “The Mayor’s proposal is simply unacceptable… The UFT will continue – as we have always done – to work to protect the schools of New York City.”
But the teacher’s union recently turned down $700 million in federal funding for NY schools teachers because the extra money would have been paid based on performance.

As you can imagine, Mesley’s hubris doesn’t go over well with the average citizen.
Union thugs; they never change.
I am looking forward to the next two elections more than any I think in my entire life!
And the sad thing is there are currently not near enough names in the bucket to choose from that I feel comfortable about.
Maybe the unknown is sometimes better than the devil we know?
I have Isakson (gone, I don’t care who in) and Barrow coming up. Oh and our lovely governor (blech). That is funny, just realized I dislike my Republican (Isakson) even more than the Democrat (Barrow). But they both need to go.
Thanks for your post on my blog! Sometimes it’s hard to argue with people who are so deeply entranched in conspiracies that every rock has something evil under it.
About the unions, what worries me the most about this, and haven’t seen this anywhere else so would really like your thoughts:
Since government jobs are now growing faster than private sector, and most of those jobs are union, will Congress and the White House have to start referring to the union contracts instead of the constitution when formulating future legislation? Can they really enact laws that might go against the contracts of their own employees?
Yet more dangerous ground.
Libertarian Woman,
You’re welcome! Your blog is one of my frequent reads for information, opinion, and analysis.
As for your question, according to the labor bureau:
That’s a scary thing. Government is FUBAR’d enough without the added factor of corrupt unions.
The current White House is in the political sack with Andy Stern’s SEIU. He’s a constant visitor to the Oval Office, and is ass deep in the push to get ObamaCare passed.
The Dem-controlled Congress and Senate have already eschewed the Constitution in favor of union influence. That’s why ordinary citizens like the Tea Party are raising hell.
Obama’s governement socialist empire is growing by leaps and bounds. Come November, we start applying the brakes.
