University of Minnesota May Institute ‘Discrimination-Based’ Teacher Ed Plan

Victimology 101.

A branch of the University of Minnesota may require all education students at the school to understand and accept that they are either privileged or oppressed and that they be well-versed in issues like “white privilege,” “institutional racism” and the “myth of meritocracy in the United States.”

Better make sure that the “white” students working their tails off waiting tables and studying hard to make good grades know just how “privileged” they are.

Critics are condemning the Race, Culture, Class and Gender Task Group at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, which proposes making race, class and gender issues the “overarching framework” of all teaching courses.

The task group, formed as part of the Teacher Education Redesign Initiative at the state university, aims to change how future teachers are trained, based on the assertion that the teachers’ lack of “cultural competence” contributes to minority students’ poor grades.

In other words, indoctrinate the indoctrinators to tell minority students that bad grades happen because teachers have a “lack of understanding” of how ‘ethnicity affects intelligence’.
It’s not their fault they can’t grasp a subject or didn’t apply themselves; it’s because some “white” instructor didn’t take their skin pigmentation into account.

The group is one of seven task forces that university spokesman Dan Wolter says are examining “a whole range of issues dealing with how teachers are educated.”

How teachers are educated?

……But the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) says the Race, Culture, Class and Gender group is going beyond addressing how teachers are educated and is trying instead to mandate their beliefs and values.

“Unlike what many schools of education have in terms of cultural competence, this task group really wants to invade the minds of future teachers and demand that they hold the ‘right’ values attitudes and beliefs about society, about themselves, and about race, class, culture, and gender, to a degree to which it really violates the freedom of conscience of future teachers,” Adam Kissel, Director of FIRE’s Individual Rights Defense Program, told

Kissel wrote a letter last week urging the university to reject the group’s proposal on the premise that “as a public university bound by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, the university is both legally and morally obligated to uphold this fundamental right.”

……Some of the proposed curriculum requirements are:

• “Future teachers will be able to discuss their own histories and current thinking drawing on notions of white privilege, hegemonic masculinity, heteronormativity, and internalized oppression.”

• Teachers will be able to articulate a “critical analysis of this story of America, for what it illuminates and what it hides or distorts” including:

– “myth of meritocracy in the United States”

– “historical connections between scientific racism, intelligence testing, and assumptions of fixed mental capacity”

– “alternative explanations for mobility (and lack of it)”

– “history of demands for assimilation to white, middle-class, Christian meanings and values”

– “history of white racism, with special focus on current colorblind ideology”

• “Future teachers are able to explain how institutional racism works in schools” and recognize that “schools and classrooms are often structured in ways that advantage and disadvantage some groups but are also critical sites for social and cultural transformation.”

The “myth” of meritocracy; if you work hard and dedicate your brains and skills to succeed, then it’s all gotta be a myth.

“History of demands for assimilation to white, middle-class, Christian meanings and values”: This is apparently worse than forced assimilation to Islamic Sharia Law or a Communist state.

“History of white racism, with special focus on current colorblind ideology”:  Of course, black or Hispanic people can never be racist.  Like MEChA, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, who’s motto is: “Everything for the race. Everything outside the race,  nothing.” (Guess which  race that is) And La Raza, (“The Race”).  Both are radical Chicano groups enraged that the United States has laws regarding illegal immigration and national sovereignty. 

They have this idea that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up a territory they call  “Aztlan” — a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America.  They plan on a reconquest or “Reconquista” of these states to establish their own separate nation.  The trouble is the Aztecs never made it that far North, but factual history isn’t their strong point.

The Black Islamic militant group Nation of Islam is headed by demagogue Louis Farrakhan who calls white people  “blue eyed devils” and refers to Jews as “bloodsuckers”.  The New Black Panther Party for Self Defense is a mix of black nationalism, Pan-Africanism and racist and anti-Semitic bigotry. They advocate racial separatism and violence against Jews.

If the University of Minnesota really intends to erase any and all ethnic identity, they’d better convince their minority students to adhere to the same “colorblind ideology”.

I want to know how I can get in on this “white privilege”.  In my 52 years, I’ve yet to reap the benefits. My ancestors were Irish, Scots, German, and Cherokee.  Impoverished immigrants came from all over Europe to America, enduring ethnic hatred as they went.

If my caucasian skin gave me any special rights in this life, I would have automatically been born into wealth, attended the finest educational institutions, and never would have had to work a hard day in my life.

In reality, I come from a working class family in a working class neighborhood.  My divorced mother raised seven kids and we all worked.  I earned a college degree with a barely adequate GI Bill, and spent 30 combined years serving my country as a United States Soldier.

“White privilege”??? I fucking wish.
