Can the world’s largest video company continue to let its 2 billion users upload anything they want, whenever they want?
Yes, says the woman who runs that company: In a letter addressed to creators on YouTube, CEO Susan Wojcicki says the platform is committed to remaining open because she thinks the upside of that approach very much outweighs the downside.
This isn’t a new idea, and it’s one that Wojcicki, along with people who run other giant tech platforms, say in private all the time. But Wojcicki is saying it again, today, as critics are increasingly questioning if it’s a philosophy that works for tech companies at a global scale. […]
“I believe preserving an open platform is more important than ever,” Wojcicki writes in a quarterly note aimed at YouTube’s most ardent users, who upload videos onto the site for fun and profit. While that note is usually dedicated to celebrating YouTube’s wide swath of creators, this one spends most of its time defending the idea that YouTube will continue to keep its doors open to anyone who wants to post just about anything on the site.
Google-owned YouTube on Monday banned right-wing commentator James Allsup (450,000+ subscribers) and a bunch of other right-wingers for “hate speech” despite many having no strikes on their channels.
The move comes just days after the Anti-Defamation League released what some have called a “hit list” calling for 30 Christian and right-wing channels to be banned for “anti-Semitism.”
……Allsup said on Gab after YouTube banned his channel that he “had no channel strikes, no violations, nothing- simply an email telling me that my livelihood, my means to exercise my political voice, my business I’d built over almost three years, was taken away from me.”
……The Red Elephants has a list of channels that have been banned in the past and links to users’ backup BitChute accounts.
Expect this list to expand endlessly as our ruling oligarchs scramble to shut down all alt-media which runs counter to their rapidly crumbling narrative.
The burning of the Library of Alexandria doesn’t hold a candle to the modern-day techno-book burning actively being carried out by Big Tech.
……Thousands of channels whose videos collectively had literally billions of views have been deleted and nearly the entire internet (Google, YouTube, Facebook, Apple and Twitter) has been reengineered to prevent people from finding any independent media while a tiny group of whitelisted fake media propaganda sites are being artificially boosted and shoved down everyone’s throats.
YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, are banding together to form a ‘Global Censorship Database‘, to streamline their efforts to censor content on their platforms. They are not fans of free speech, especially facts and opinions that differ from their leftwing agenda.
Wojcicki is bald faced liar. But she’s in good company.
