The sacrificial lamb.
UPDATE: (December 2012) Grindler resigned.
From Fox News.
A bombshell report released Wednesday on Operation Fast and Furious faulted a range of federal agencies for the failed anti-gunrunning program and accused officials in charge of a “disregard” for public safety. In the wake of the report, one Justice Department official resigned and another retired.
The sprawling report by the department’s inspector general is the most comprehensive account yet on the deadly operation which allowed weapons to “walk” across the U.S.-Mexico border and resulted in hundreds of firearms turning up at crime scenes in both countries.
The report says Attorney General Eric Holder was not made aware of potential flaws in the program until February of last year. But the report cites 14 other department employees — including Criminal Division head Lanny Breuer — for potential wrongdoing, recommending the department consider disciplinary action against them.
One congressional source told Fox News the report was “more brutal than was expected.”
“Not aware of potential flaws”. The motherfucker let hundreds of high-powered weapons walk across the border and get into the hands of Mexican thugs. What could go wrong?
In 2009, Holder bragged about the operation during a speech in Mexico. He’s known about it for years.
Both Obama and Holder lied about and covered up their involvement in this disaster. Discovered documents and memos prove that they lied. Both obstructed justice by stonewalling Congress, preventing witness testimonies, and threatening to fire anyone who refused to go along with the coverup.
Congressman Darrell Issa, the lead prosecutor responds:
“Former Deputy Attorney General Gary Grindler, Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer who heads the Criminal Division, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein, Arizona U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke, and Holder’s own Deputy Chief of Staff Monty Wilkinson are all singled out for criticism in the report. It’s time for President Obama to step in and provide accountability for officials at both the Department of Justice and ATF who failed to do their jobs. Attorney General Holder has clearly known about these unacceptable failures yet has failed to take appropriate action for over a year and a half.”
The Inspector General has indicated he will continue his investigation of matters related to Operation Fast and Furious, including retaliation against whistleblowers and an effort to have the Justice Department unseal wiretap applications sealed by courts that were approved by senior officials. The Congressional investigation will also continue to seek documents wrongfully withheld from Congress.
Inspector General Horowitz will testify on the findings of his investigation before the Oversight Committee today. Issa needs to grill him on the whitewash.
