Helen Thomas Rails Against Bloggers

Methusela spouts again:

Not everyone is thrilled about how new technology has changed the way news is reported. Long-time White House Press Corp member and columnist for Hearst newspapers Helen Thomas is one of those unhappy. She blames bloggers for contributing to the “deterioration” of journalism that led to the Iraq war.

“What I really worry about is that I think the bloggers and everyone, everyone with a laptop thinks they’re journalists,” Thomas said. “And, they certainly don’t have our standards. They don’t have our ethics, and so forth. There’s a deterioration,” she continued. “Reporters laid down on the job in the run up to this war.”

Thomas made those remarks in a January 4 round-table discussion that followed the premiere of a documentary about the National Press Club 100, “The National Press Club at 100: A Century of Headlines.”

The documentary chronicled how the National Press Club has changed over the years as forms of media have changed – from newspapers to radio, TV, magazines and now bloggers. The most recent changes were underscored by Matt Drudge’s June 1998 National Press Club luncheon address.

I think they did a lousy job and we’re making for it now because the questions that should have been asked were not asked and because of 9/11 and the fear of being called unpatriotic, un-American and so forth. We let the country down,” Thomas added.

The old bag is obnoxious and delusional.  Their  “ethics” and “standards”???  That’s the LAST thing the main stream media possess or practice. Stephen Glass, Jayson Blair, Eason Jordon, Mary Mapes, Dan Rather, William Arkin, Keith Olbermann, Helen Thomas….what a collection of moonbats.

Those self-appointed foreign policy “mavens” are a laugh a minute.

I wrote the following in a previous blog, “The Media at war”:

Over the last 40 years, the American media has gradually synchronized with the leftist party line, which is part and parcel of modern journalism; any view to the contrary would somehow portray them as “government tools”.
Once considered the “Fourth Estate”, the press has mutated into the “Fifth Column”.

It’s supposed to be the “watchdog” , but who watches the “watchdog”?

Most of them are so visceral and leftwing it makes the likes of Vladimir Lenin look like a Republican.

They want all of the rights of free press but none of the consequences.

The New York Slimes Times editor Bill Keller kvetched about us uppity bloggers too:

“At least since the election of 2000, with its attendant questions of legitimacy, some of the wide, reasonable middle of the American electorate has gravitated to angry and intolerant fringes, right and left. There are many reasons for this — including the proliferation of partisan blogs, hate-mongering radio broadcasts and intemperate television shout shows……”

And this unbelievable statement of Keller’s is a doozy:

……we are agnostic as to where a story may lead; we do not go into a story with an agenda or a pre-conceived notion. We do not manipulate or hide facts to advance an agenda. We strive to preserve our independence from political and economic interests, including our own advertisers. We do not work in the service of a party, or an industry, or even a country. When there are competing views of a situation, we aim to reflect them as clearly and fairly as we can.”

One of the biggest perpetrators of leftwing bias claiming to be “angostic” about their stories. “No agenda”…what a load of bullshit.

Keller is still  whining  about the 2000 election…newsflash: Even his own socialist rag reluctantly admitted that if the Florida count been drawn out to the bitter end, the inevitable conclusion would have been that not only did GW win, but the number of Florida and electoral college votes would have increased. The day when the NYT goes tits up or gets bought out, can’t come soon enough.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I was one of those military absentee voters that Algore tried to stifle by attempting to null and void our ballots. Talk about trying to steal an election.

The liberal press elite have an agenda for the masses that doesn’t apply to them.
They fear the general public’s ability to access and utilize the internet as a forum to counter their half-truths and confront them on their belief that they and only they can define the facts and how they’re presented.

It doesn’t take a degree in journalism to discuss issues, dissect the blatant leftwing advocacy, fill in the parts they convieniently omit, or point out all the distortions they pass off as “news stories”.

They have an anal fixation with anything that maligns the United States. They trivialize the Islamofascist threat to Western civilization, aid and abet illegal aliens, print national security secrets on their front pages, sympathize with terrorist organizations like CAIR, and demonstrate almost daily that they are squarely on the side of America’s enemies.

But, don’t you dare question their “patriotism”.

Thomas should just consider (Conservative) bloggers as a force that ‘speaks truth to power’.

    sfcmac:

You are 150% accurate (that’s five rounds through one caliber-sized hole at 1,000 yards) with your assessment of both the establishment media and those who slavishly eat the corrosive slop they dish up.

But the times, they are a-changin’. The New Media – talk radio, the internet – is breaking the stranglehold. It’s a slow process. The Old Media has been at it for many decades and they won’t let their power go without a fight, but the signs and portents are there for those with eyes to see; the ostriches will never understand. The wailing and flailing as extinction looms will be wonderful to watch.

All media use print, T.V., and radio to broadcast opinions and give slants on issues which don’t necessarily include a public voice in the process. When the public does react, especially if it’s diametrically opposed to what they’ve heard, the MSM will often circle the wagons in distainful indignation.

Too many people however, take what they see on ABC World News Tonight verbatum without questioning the sources or wondering why it’s consistantly anti-war/American/military.

These jackals have been after everything Republican since Eisenhower was President: he was a dolt who couldn’t put a real sentence together to save his ass. Granted, he used incredibly tortured syntax at times, but sit was always grammatically correct. And all he did was balance egos the likes of Montgomery, Patton, DeGaulle, Churchill, Stalin, etc. in order to win WW II in Europe. I remember what Marlin Fitzwater, Ike’s Press Secretary, related about a press conference wherein Eisenhower used more byzantine language than usual. As he left the briefing room, he said to Fitz: “I sure tied ’em up that time, didn’t I?”
Makes one wonder who really wore the dunce cap.

For all of my aware life the working template of the establishment media has been that Republican presidents are: (a) ignorant (Eisenhower); (b) criminal (Nixon); (c) stupid (Reagan); (d) loony (G. H. W. Bush); or (d) evil (G. W. Bush). As proof that they really are fair and balanced, every Democrat President over the same period has been: (a) Saviour of the World; or (b) see (a).

They make me ashamed to have ever been a journalist. The only saving grace is that I was a Navy Journalist and thus on the wrong side of the fence from these traitors.

The only comment I have about Helen Thomas is that she could play the opening scene of Macbeth without needing makeup, or an attitude adjustment.
