We keep hearing, “we need to have a national conversation about guns,” and then we keep hearing statements from those same voices that are simply not true. If we’re going to have that national conversation, I want the other side to do its homework first.
I don’t want to hear CNN lamenting that Florida doesn’t require a concealed carry permit for an AR-15 or shotgun. (They are too large to conceal.) I don’t want to hear people referring to the AR-15 as an “automatic assault weapon” and I want them to learn the difference between automatic and semiautomatic, and which kind is already illegal. I don’t want to hear about “the gun show loophole” unless the shooter purchased his gun at a gun show. (To the best of my knowledge, not a single mass-shooter has done so.) I want former presidents to stop asserting that it’s easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than buy a computer or a book.
If someone wants to ban AR-15s, I want them to say so. I also want to know what they want to do about the 5 million to 10 million AR-15s already in private hands. I want them to realize that if they don’t grandfather in the already-owned ones, they will instantly turn millions of law-abiding Americans, who have never fired a shot in anger, into criminals. If a gun control advocate proposes a buyback program like Australia’s, I want that person to recognize that the compliance rate down under was about 20 percent and it created a violent black market for guns. If a gun control advocate calls for law enforcement to confiscate AR-15s from private homes, I want that person to realize that they’re calling for violent chaos. And I want them to know that as long as groups advocate ideas like this, the line “no one wants to take away your guns” is a disingenuous lie.

Seung-Hui Cho passed a background check before killing 32 people and wounding 17 at Virginia Tech.
Jared Loughner passed a background check before killing 6 people and wounding 13 in Tucson.
James Holmes passed a background check before killing 12 people and injuring 58 in Aurora.
Adam Lanza … well, he murdered his mother before killing 26 other people with guns stolen from her. Lanza’s mother, of course, passed a background check.

Armed criminals and psychopaths deliberately choose soft, unarmed targets. They couldn’t give one shit less about the idea of restrictive gun laws. Every law-abiding American citizen has the right to defend themselves from low life thugs and deranged morons.
Politicians who want to push through stupid laws that only affect law-abiding citizens and diminish Second Amendment rights, have a shit factory for a brain. The same DemProgs who push for ‘gun control’ are surrounded by armed security.

Lefties are selective about which shootings to bother with and whether to blame the shooter or the gun.

They were also conspicuously silent when illegal alien Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, shot and murdered Kate Steinle as she walked with her father on a San Francisco pier.
The families of the victims of Obama’s Fast and Furious gunrunning operation can’t seem to get their attention, either.
Criminals usually don’t bother with background checks. I’m a member of the NRA. I’m armed and I shoot. According to the Left’s set of rules, some are more deserving of the Second Amendment than others, and they certainly know how to selectively exploit and politicize gun-related crimes.
Mentally ill and criminally insane moonbats have more rights than sane people who make the logical choice to do what is necessary to protect their homes, family, and lives. I own a firearm and I guaran-goddamn-tee you that if anyone breaks into my home, they will leave in a body bag.

Murder and homicide rates before and after gun bans:
Every place that has banned guns (either all guns or all handguns) has seen murder rates go up. You cannot point to one place where murder rates have fallen, whether it’s Chicago or D.C. or even island nations such as England, Jamaica, or Ireland.
For an example of homicide rates before and after a ban, take the case of the handgun ban in England and Wales in January 1997 (source here see Table 1.01 and the column marked “Offences currently recorded as homicide per million population,” UPDATED numbers available here). After the ban, clearly homicide rates bounce around over time, but there is only one year (2010) where the homicide rate is lower than it was in 1996. The immediate effect was about a 50 percent increase in homicide rates. Firearm homicide rate had almost doubled between 1996 and 2002 (see here p. 11). The homicide and firearm homicide rates only began falling when there was a large increase in the number of police officers during 2003 and 2004. Despite the huge increase in the number of police, the murder rate still remained slightly higher than the immediate pre-ban rate.
