Mark Kelly Shoots Self in Foot With ‘Gun Control’ Publicity Stunt (UPDATED)

In response to Kelly’s stunt, an Arizona talk radio host posted the following picture, which was taken at the Tucson Police Department firing range.

James T. Harris, blogging at the website of “101.4 FM The Truth,” wrote:

What is wrong with this picture? Absolutely nothing, and prior to the aggressive progressive opportunistic fear mongering in the wake of Sandy Hook, this picture would have raised no eyebrows and garnered little public attention.

However, in response to the exploitative political scheming of Mark Kelly, persons connected to Congresswoman Giffords released this photo in response to what they perceived to be her husband’s hypocrisy.

 

 

Kelly is the husband of former Senator Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) who was one of the victims of Jared Loughner’s shooting rampage. He’s dedicated his new-found outrage over the Second Amendment to exploiting his wife’s injury.

Mark Kelly has traveled to space and back, and since then has been just about everywhere else (including Colorado) making a case for gun control in the face of those Second Amendment supporters on the “ideological fringe.” Kelly recently lit up social media with news that he had purchased an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle — the “poster boy” of military-style assault weapons — in Arizona.

Kelly has said he was trying to prove a point about background checks, not unlike Michael Moore’s (perfectly legal) acquisition of a hunting rifle in his anti-gun movie “Bowling for Columbine.” Breitbart.com has some questions for Kelly, though. If he was trying to prove how easy it was to purchase an AR-15, why did he purchase a used one, which would require him to wait 20 days to take possession? The owner of Diamondback Police Supply told Breitbart that Kelly hasn’t even completed the background check paperwork yet due to the waiting period.

If the purchase was just a stunt to show how easy it is to buy an assault weapon, it wasn’t very well planned. Ace of Spades has a few questions of his own, which he posed to Commander Kelly via Twitter.

Ace of Spades points out:

His claimed stunt makes no sense. Let’s go down the list: Mark Kelly is…

… a Naval officer

… a Space Shuttle pilot and astronaut

… with a clean criminal record

… who is married to a frickin’ Congresswoman.

What would his point have been, had he actually gone through the federal check (which he didn’t, despite his claims)? That a law-abiding Naval officer astronaut married to a Congresswoman can pass a federal gun purchase check?

Of course he could. How could he not pass it? On what grounds would there be a delay for someone who not only has a clean criminal record, but in fact almost certainly has a US intelligence clearance of much better than Top Secret?

Does he have a record as a crack dealer we don’t know about?

How does this expose a flaw in the system?

Someone joked: “He thinks they trust him with Space Shuttle but that it’s a scandal that he could pass a quick background check to buy a rifle?”

It makes no sense.

Double standards,  politicizing the actions of a nutcase for leftwing agenda, and imitating Michael Moore’s penchant for hypocritical grandstanding.

Makes perfect sense.
