After months of deliberating, President Obama opted not to accept any of the Afghanistan war options presented by his national security team, pushing instead for revisions to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, a senior administration official said Wednesday.
That stance comes in the midst of forceful reservations about a possible troop buildup from the U.S. ambassador in Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, according to a second top administration official.
In strongly worded classified cables to Washington, Eikenberry said he had misgivings about sending in new troops while there are still so many questions about the leadership of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Eikenberry, who once commanded forces in Afghanistan, resigned his Army commission to take the job as U.S. ambassador in Kabul earlier this year, and his is an influential voice among those advising President Barack Obama on Afghanistan.
Eikenberry sent multiple classified cables to Washington over the past week that question the wisdom of adding forces when the Afghan political situation is unstable and uncertain, said an official familiar with the cables. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal administration deliberations and the classified documents.

He already got sound advice from the current Commander, General Stanley McCrystal, who told Obama it would be a good idea to send at least 40,000 troops to Afghanistan to finish the job. Instead of giving General McCrystal the troops and resources he needs, Obama prefers to take his sweet fucking time. He’d rather reject every proposal given to him by seasoned commanders and make it look like they haven’t come up with any viable solutions. McCrystal is from the General David Petraeus school of counter-insurgency warfare. He got it right in Iraq, and if Obama listens to him, Afghanistan’s security will be expedited as well.
On top of being a socialist moron with a penchant for being a Dhimmi, Obama is an incompetent plebe who can’t handle responsibilities “above his pay grade”.
I feel for the Soldiers still in Afghanistan. Their so-called “commander-in-chief” is an epic fail. But we knew that even during the campaign.
