Accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay prisoners will be brought to trial in a civilian federal courthouse in Manhattan, just blocks from site of the terror attacks.
Prosecutors said they expect to seek the death penalty against Mohammed and the other four.
……During a news conference this morning, US Attorney General Eric Holder also announced that five other suspects — including suspected USS Cole bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri — will be tried before a military commission.
As for Mohammed, Holder said the defendants should be tried where the crimes took place.
“Our nation has had no higher priority than bringing those who planned and plotted the attacks to justice,” he said.
Bullshit. They are not common criminals and have no business being tried in a civilian court, regardless of location. “Brought to justice”? It’s not really the muslim terrorists that Holder and company plan to put on trial. It’s the CIA, the enhanced interrogation methods, and the Bush administration that kept us safe after 9/11, that B. Hussein wants to put on trial.
In a statement, Mayor Bloomberg said he supports the move.
“I support the Obama administration’s decision to prosecute 9/11 terrorists here in New York. It is fitting that 9/11 suspects face justice near the World Trade Center site where so many New Yorkers were murdered,” he said.
I wonder if Bloomberg plans on having another conference with Siraj Wahhaj while he’s at it.

Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani isn’t too thrilled with this.
In an appearance on Fox News Channel this afternoon, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani said the move was irresponsible.
“It’s not inconceivable that the case could be thrown out,” he said.
Giuliani, who was mayor on 9/11, said he disagrees with Bloomberg.
“These are war criminals. This was an act of war. An act of terror,” he said. “They should be tried in a military tribunal.”
Senator Kyl points out the national security risk.
……Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) blasted the plan and told The Associated Press that bringing Mohammed to New York is “an unnecessary risk” that could result in the disclosure of classified government information.
Kyl maintained the trial of Omar Abdel Rahman, the blind sheik involved in an earlier terror attack on the Twin Towers in 1993, caused “valuable information about US intelligence sources and methods” to be revealed to the al-Qaeda terror network.
