Hussein was not only stupid and crazy, he was a megalomaniac who thumbed his nose at the UN inspectors and every UN WMD resolution enacted for 12 years.

The military superiority of our armed forces wasn’t enough of a deterrent because we didn’t make enough of an impression the first time around. We should have gone all the way to Baghdad back in 1991. Instead, he was left alive, in power, and gloating about it.

He really did not believe we would attack in spite of his violations, deceptions, and terrorist support. Well, surprise, surprise.

“Shock and Awe” should have been only the beginning of our retaliation. No one, not even George Bush said Iraq had a direct connection to 9/11 itself. It has been indisputably established, however, that he had direct connections to terrorist groups responsible for 9/11.

The redacted version of “Saddam and Terrorism” is the most definitive public assessment to date from the Harmony program, the trove of “exploitable” documents, audio and video records, and computer files captured in Iraq. On the basis of about 600,000 items, the report lays out Saddam’s willingness to use terrorism against American and other international targets, as well as his larger state sponsorship of terror, which included harboring, training and equipping jihadis throughout the Middle East.

“The rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the region gave Saddam the opportunity to make terrorism, one of the few tools remaining in Saddam’s ‘coercion’ toolbox, not only cost effective but a formal instrument of state power,” the authors conclude. Throughout the 1990s, the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) cooperated with Hamas; the Palestine Liberation Front, which maintained a Baghdad office; Force 17, Yasser Arafat’s private army; and others. The IIS gave commando training for members of Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the organization that assassinated Anwar Sadat and whose “emir” was Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became Osama bin Laden’s second-in-command when the group merged with al Qaeda in 1998.

At the very least the report should dispel the notion that outwardly “secular” Saddam would never consort with religious types like al Qaeda. A pan-Arab nationalist, Saddam viewed radical Islamists as potential allies, and they likewise. According to a 1993 memo, Saddam decided to “form a group to start hunting Americans present on Arab soil; especially Somalia,” where al Qaeda was then working with warlords against U.S. humanitarian forces. Saddam also trained Sudanese fighters in Iraq.

The Pentagon report cites this as “a tactical example” of their cooperation. When Saddam “was ordering action in Somalia aimed at the American presence, Osama bin Laden was doing the same thing.” Saddam took an interest in “far-flung terrorist groups . . . to locate any organization whose services he might use in the future.” The Harmony documents “reveal that the regime was willing to co-opt or support organizations it knew to be part of al Qaeda — as long as that organization’s near-term goals supported Saddam’s long-term version.”

For 20 years, such “support” included using Fedayeen Saddam training camps to school terrorists, especially Palestinians but also non-Iraqis “directly associated” with al Qaeda, continuing up to the fall of Baghdad. Saddam also provided financial support and weapons, amounting to “a state-directed program of significant scale.” In July 2001, the regime began patronizing a terror cartel in Bahrain calling itself the Army of Muhammad, which, according to an Iraqi memo, “is under the wings of bin Laden.”

Screwed up the oil seizure? How? By not taking it all for ourselves, which is the excuse you give for us going into Iraq?

Nothing pleases you lefties. You don’t like the way the war is being fought, but you offer no military plan of your own, let alone which (pick one) terrorist state you think we should attack. Come to think of it, you don’t want us in Iraq, Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the ME. Hell, most of you assclowns blamed America for 9/11 to begin with. Al-Zawahiri loves you.

Between having to constantly move to avoid being killed/captured, and not being able to show his ugly mug, except on outdated al Jazeera videos, Osama Bin Laden is not a happy camper.

But, you keep rooting for him. I’m sure he appreciates all the support he can get.

Even though your comment is WAAAAAAAAY off topic and not even in the correct grid zone (that’s ‘area’ for you civilian types), I’ll address your stupidity anyway:

Saddam Hussein, as evidenced by the WMD found, his previous use and continued willingness to use them, and the documents discovered which connected him to terrorists, was a threat. The fact remains that the inspectors got absolutely nowhere with regard to full disclosure of Hussein’s WMD program. He wasn’t the only threat. Just one of them. But, not anymore, is he?

When you retaliate, ie: attack an enemy, it’s usually a good idea to hit them where they live and breed, as well as their allies.

In the Middle East it’s something like this: Pick one.

Terrorists cross borders. They sure as hell crossed ours, didn’t they? The 9/11 attacks preceded our invasion of ME countries, not the other way around.

One of the letters we intercepted from Ayman al-Zawahiri to the now in hell Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, specifically mentioned the establishment an Islamic Caliphate in the “heart of the Islamic world”, to include Iraq.

He mentioned this as being vital to Al Qaeda’s war against Western civilization. Afghanistan was a side show. Despite this, you Dem sockpuppets keep spouting the line that Iraq is a “mistake” because it diverted our attention away from the “real war” in Afghanistan. Well, looks like Zawahiri refuted that notion. Zawahiri also said that Afghanistan is “just the groundwork and the vanguard for the major battles which have begun in the heart of the Islamic world.”

Newsflash: Even after victory is officially declared in Iraq and Afghanistan, this war ain’t over by a long shot. Terrorists are funded, aided and supported throughout the Middle East.

Our policy should be simple: you attack us, we annihilate you, your supporters, your country, everything.

Bin Laden is hiding in a cave somewhere in the mountains of Pakistan. The Al Qaeda and Taliban have been beaten to a pulp.
