A woman described her 105 year old mother as being in good spirits with a lust for life, in spite of her age. She received a pacemaker at the age of 99. She wanted to know if her mother would have qualified for the procedure under ObamaCare.
Jane Sturm: “Outside the medical criteria for prolonging life for somebody who is elderly, is there any consideration that can be given for a certain spirit, a joy of living, quality of life? Or is it just a medical cut off at a certain age”?
Here, in part, is THE ONE’s response:
“…..What we can do is make sure that at least some of the waste that exists in the system that’s not making anybody’s Mom better; that is loading up on additional tests, or additional drugs, that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care….That at least we can let doctors know and your Mom know that, you know what? Maybe this isn’t going to help. Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the pain killer.”
Translation: She was too old for medical treatment. She should have take that painkiller, lady.
There’s a big difference between the government’s opinion of “quality of life” and what is best for the patient. I believe everyone should have the option of death with dignity. Moreover, it should be a decision left to the family, not the government.
If the government takes over health care in this country, there will be a Darwinization of medicine. Government claims agents will be appointed to decide whether or not your life is worth saving or if it’s “necessary” to provide treatment. The government will decide which doctor you will have, what kind of treatment will be allocated, and when. Like Canada. Like Britain. Like Germany. You will have no choice.
If you think the cost of medical treatment is high enough now, just wait if Obama gets his way.
Who do think will foot the bill for this train wreck? If you said “the already overburdened taxpayers”, congratulations.
The socialized medicine in Europe and Canada is so dicked up that seriously ill people will fly or drive here to get treatment. If anyone is stupid enough to believe that we should model our system after theirs, by all means travel to Canada, and see for yourself.
And take a number.
Awesome! Glad to get another blog to read.
Keep up the good work and give me a visit.
