Obama has tapped Vice President Joseph R. Biden to lead an administration wide effort to curb gun violence in the aftermath of the massacre in Newtown, Conn., on Friday.
Mr. Obama, with Mr. Biden at his side, will make a statement at the White House at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday on administration plans just five days after the school shooting that killed 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
On Tuesday, the White House said it supports reinstating a ban on assault weapons but that was only one part of a much broader strategy aimed at putting a stop to the string of shootings the nation has endured in recent years.
During a Sunday-night vigil in Newtown, Mr. Obama vowed to use “whatever power this office holds” in efforts to prevent “more tragedies like this.”
Obama added: “We can’t accept events like this as routine. Are we really prepared to say that we’re powerless in the face of such carnage? That the politics are too hard?”
“Politics are too hard”? The Dems are experts at politicizing tragedy.
And just to show you how Obama will exploit anything for money, David “Astroturf” Axelrod is using the Newtown massacre in a donations email to constituents.
They won the campaign handily and even had $14.2 million to spare, but the Obama-Biden campaign is still raising money, this time off the president’s comments about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Connecticut.
In email from chief campaign advisor David Axelrod that urges supporters to watch Obama’s moving address to the community of Newtown, Conn., there are two links that open a page with a video player featuring the president’s speech and two donate buttons asking for $15-$1,000 for his campaign.
“The next chapter begins today. Stand with President Obama for the next four years,” headlines the donation page.
Sick.
By the way: Obama’s Fast and Furious gunrunning has accumulated quite a body count. Where’s the fucking task force?
No media outrage, either. Nothing to see here, move along.
