Kevin Williamson’s Hit Piece on the White Working Class (UPDATED)

Kevin Williamson, a ‘conservative’ commentator at the National Review, wrote a smear piece peppered with insults at Trump supporters. Apparently, they’re all white trash hillbillies with drug addictions.

Via Jazz Shaw at Hot Air.

Excerpts from Williamson’s garbage:

If you spend time in hardscrabble, white upstate New York, or eastern Kentucky, or my own native West Texas, and you take an honest look at the welfare dependency, the drug and alcohol addiction, the family anarchy — which is to say, the whelping of human children with all the respect and wisdom of a stray dog — you will come to an awful realization. It wasn’t Beijing. It wasn’t even Washington, as bad as Washington can be. It wasn’t immigrants from Mexico, excessive and problematic as our current immigration levels are. It wasn’t any of that.

Nothing happened to them. There wasn’t some awful disaster. There wasn’t a war or a famine or a plague or a foreign occupation. Even the economic changes of the past few decades do very little to explain the dysfunction and negligence — and the incomprehensible malice — of poor white America. So the gypsum business in Garbutt ain’t what it used to be. There is more to life in the 21st century than wallboard and cheap sentimentality about how the Man closed the factories down.

The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die.

Jazz Shaw’s take:

This is truly stunning. A broadside attack on America’s middle class is apparently the last recourse of truly lost and desperate souls. Worst of all, it’s a denial of reality. I don’t know how things are in hardscrabble, white West Texas, but I happen to live in one of those hardscrabble, white Upstate New York burgs and Kevin is living in some sort of dream world. Garbutt serves as a useful metaphor in his tale, but it bears little to no relevance to the reality these communities have dealt with nor the government policy failures which let them down. Garbutt failed when the industry moved on and made their offerings less palatable. I live in a town where IBM once employed more than 10,000 workers in a complex which occupied nearly one fifth of the downtown real estate. Today the jobs number in the hundreds, not thousands, and much of the complex sits empty. But the computer industry didn’t go away, nor did IBM. It simply sends more and more jobs out of the country every year.

That tale is repeated with Kodak in Rochester and most of the other former manufacturing sites around the state. The comparison to Garbutt is nonsense. As to the drug abuse and other “moral failings” of white, working class communities, Kevin tells them to grow a spine and take a bus to Pennsylvania’s oil and gas facilities as if you can simply transplant entire communities and the skills are immediately transferable. I wonder if he would advise the drug saddled communities in Brownsville, New York to take a cab ride over to Manhattan and just get jobs as investment bankers?

Trashing angry white working-class people who, like minorities, have been economically destroyed by Dem policies is pretty fucking crass.  Williamson’s stereotypes of drugged-up hill jacks are right out of the leftwing playbook. I’m surprised he didn’t mention trailer parks.

And besides, aren’t all Caucasians supposed to be endowed with “white privilege”?

If Williamson wants to spend time dissecting the social mores of certain demographics, he can turn his attention to the black community,  where riots, looting, vandalism, gang warfare, and murder have become a staple.

DemProgs have ruled these areas for decades, and blacks keep re-installing the same race-baiting corruptocrats.  Talk about dysfunctional downscale communities that deserve to die.  Their dystopia is self-inflicted.

There are underlying issues for the crime and poverty in black communities, all of which have been fueled by a political agenda designed to keep them on the Dem plantation.

The entitlement culture will always expect a handout, and the Dems will always be there to give it to them. Your color entitles you to special treatment. You’re downtrodden because the evil white folks made you ‘needy’.  The bigotry of low expectations; it’s so much easier than personal accountability.

The Demagogues nurture the conditions and the social conduct that spawns the riots and other violence predominant in black neighborhoods. They do this by feeding the maws of class warfare.

There are poor, disadvantaged Americans of every stripe, but Republicans always get the criticism for the socio-economic disaster of minorities.

I wasn’t a Trump fan initially; all that changed after he took office and began to reverse Obama’s damage and put the country first.  The GOP establishment would do well to back off the “blame Trump” shit and focus instead on why he appeals to a large segment of angry Americans. The more they insult his followers, and moreover, insult people who are justifiably angry with the RINO contingent, the more all of this will come back to bite them in the ass.

Republicans vilifyinsult, and denigrate faithful grassroots Republicans and Tea Party Patriots for holding them accountable and demanding that they fulfill the promises they made. We expect that kind of filth from LeftProg Dems; not from our own party. The majority of the seats gained by the GOP in the House in 2010, was due in large part to the Tea Party movement; a fact that escapes their selective memories. We also had considerable influence in the 2014 mid-terms.

We gave them a majority in the House after the 2014 mid-term elections, and nothing has changed.

We elected them to stop Obama and the DemProgs in their tracks. They turned out to be chickenshits unwilling to take the risks necessary to accomplish that.  They’re so afraid of being called “racist”, “mean”, “uncaring”, and a variety of other leftwingnut pejoratives, that they quake at the mere thought of fighting to get this country back.

Instead of backing Republicans who have strong Tea Party values, they were dismissed as ‘fringe’. Instead of doing what we elected them to do, they cave into the petty little tyrant in the White House and his tools in the Democratic Party.

If the RINOs and establishment Republicans fought the leftwingnut DemProgs with the same veracity they do Trump, this country would be a lot better off.
