With the investigation stalled into the circumstances around how former Taliban captive (READ: willing captive) Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl left his Afghanistan post on the night of June, 30, 2009, one conservative pundit says the probe is “shaping up to be a whitewash.”
And it’s all designed to protect Obama, author and journalist Paul Sperry said in a New York Post article published Saturday.
Bergdahl’s release from captivity in an orchestrated swap for five Taliban commanders at Guantanamo Bay began to blow up in the president’s face almost from the moment he announced it from the Rose Garden, flanked by the deserter’s parents.
……Sperry…wrote in the Post piece that a senior Army official told him court-martialing Bergdahl would “make the president look bad,” adding that it’s more likely he will be released from military service with a less-than-honorable discharge.
Anything more stringent would be an embarrassment for Obama, Sperry said.
Bergdahl returned to regular duties in early July, but he was not interviewed until last month.
The investigation is led by U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl, who asked for an extension to an Aug. 15 deadline to submit his findings, making it likely that nothing will happen until after the November election, according to the Post.
That the military would actually go along with a putrid agreement to cover Obama’s ass, is slavish and beyond belief. It’s a clear indication that the military hierarchy is dishonorable and morally bankrupt. It’s totally fucking unreal. Any other service member who deliberately leaves their post and defects to the enemy would be convicted by a courts martial, stripped of all rank, fined, and occupying an 8×10 cell in Leavenworth. Desertion during wartime is also a death penalty offense.
But because Obama got involved and turned it into his usual self-aggrandizing political exploitation, that makes all the difference.
The Army knows goddamned well what happened. Bergdhal left his gear in a nice neat little pile along with a note that explained he was running away. He willfully collaborated with the enemy and declared allegiance to Islamic jihad.
Administering the proper punishment would make Obama look bad, and we can’t have that. Instead, Bergdahl is getting “therapy and counseling” and returned to active duty.
Dhimmi B. Hussein makes a speech in the Rose Garden flanked by Bergdahl’s Taliban-schmoozing parents, slobbering over him as if he were just a misunderstood kid, but he had no such sympathy for the families of the Soldiers who sacrificed their lives looking for the little ratfuck. And of course, the five Taliban cutthroats Obama set free from GITMO in exchange for Bergdahl, will be eternally grateful for his generosity as they return to the battlefield to kill Americans.
Obama hopes the entire episode will just go away. He really thinks those who serve honorably will forget the whole thing. We damned sure won’t.
